‘Spies in Disguise’ forever.

Scrat from Ice Age

I recently ranked the best Christmas Day releases of the 21st century. High on the list, teasing a bit of “Really?” kerfuffle from the Collider Slack, was Spies in disguise. The animated comedy, produced by Blue Sky Studios and released by Disney, recently acquired by Blue Sky’s original distribution partner, 20th Century Fox, is a clever, responsive, and star-studded spy comedy, one that got me excited for the future. by Blue Sky. By deadline, Disney has shut down Blue Sky Studios, shutting it down entirely. As a spokesperson bluntly put it: “Given the current economic realities, after much consideration and evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to shut down filming operations at Blue Sky Studios.” Nearly 450 employees will be affected by this decision, while some will be given consideration for other positions within Disney’s internal operations. Blue Sky was in the middle of doing the Patrick Osborne-Hybrid fantasy / sci-fi directed Nimona, which had 10 months left in production with a release date of January 14, 2022. Production on this film has been halted and Disney will no longer release it in any form. The last day of Blue Sky will be in April.

Blue Sky Studios was originally founded in 1987 by a group of technology and animation pioneers. Chris wedge, Michael Ferraro, Carl Ludwig, Alison brown, David brownY Eugene Troubetzkoy, which left the closure of a previous company. The team worked on character design for film, television, and commercial production for some time, before moving on to producing animated shorts and feature films. 2002 Ice Age it was his feature film debut, a huge success that inspired a five-film franchise (a Disney + series based on the property is still in the works). His other feature films include Robots, Dr. Seuss’s Horton Hears Who!, the River franchise, Epic, The Peanuts Movie, Fernando, and of course my beloved Spies in disguise.

We hope that the talented people involved in this team will soon find a new blue sky.
