[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision, Season 1, Episode 5, “On a Very Special Episode…”]
Among the many meta-textual and coincidentally terrifying mental breakdowns that occur in WandaVision, Episode 5 ends with a bang. From WandaElizabeth olsen) Dead brother Pietro returns, seemingly sprung from the increasingly oppressive imagination of Wanda’s sitcom. But it’s not the MCU version of Pietro, aka Quicksilver, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson that appears on your doorstep. It is the one that was previously owned by Fox and is now owned by Disney. X Men Pietro’s version, played by Evan Peters. A “recast”, like Darcy (Kat dennings) puts. How the hell did they pull off this daring move?
WandaVision showrunner Jac schaeffer talked with Marvel.com (Synergy!) On this storytelling move, admitting from the jump that while they “loved the idea” of resurrecting Quicksilver, they weren’t sure how it could justifiably work. “We thought, how the hell are we going to make this make logical sense? Like, how do we justify this? Because that’s the thing, you can hatch a million great ideas, but to get them grounded, to make them grounded, to make them feel organic in the larger history. ” Schaeffer also explained that Kevin Feige “I wanted to make sure there was a reason for it, that it made sense. And I hope that’s what we did.”
Logistical hurdles aside, Schaeffer knew he wanted to make this move and that he would particularly feel the spirit of the show using Peters in the role.
“This show is a mental confusion, and because it’s working on so many levels, and there are so many notions of what’s real and what’s not, and the performance, the cast, the audience, and the fandom, and all of that, we thought. it would be the greatest thrill to bring Evan to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ”
So how did they create their en? Like many other moments on the show, it all grew out of the sitcom trope. As Schaeffer explained, “We thought, how do we give him this input, and then we enjoy that, and then we drive him crazy? And we had long had the idea of the trope of the brother, or the relative, or whoever comes. Town and similar, shake things up with the family, that sitcom trope. ”
“We supported him for so long and we didn’t know if it would be possible,” Schaeffer continued. “It was hard making it happen. Evan was always willing to, like, always, always, always. He’s a comic book and Marvel fan. He’s always ready for the weirdest option. And it’s a pleasure – truly a pleasure to work with. with the “. This is great news to hear, and it could set a multiverse collapse precedent for the MCU to move forward, especially given this. Spider man 3 News.
