The ‘Homeland’ actress replaces Keira Knightley in the adaptation of Sarah Perry’s award-winning 2016 novel.
Emmy Winner Claire danes say goodbye to your acclaimed Showtime series Homeland last year, but he’s not waiting long to get back on TV as he signed up to star in the Apple TV + series The Essex Serpent.
Based on the award-winning 2016 novel by Sarah perry, the drama follows Cora (Danish), a recently widowed woman who, after surviving an abusive marriage, decides to move from Victorian London to the small town of Aldwinter in Essex. There, she is intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.
Produced by See-Saw Films, the series will be directed by Clio Barnard (The selfish giant), Y Anna symon (Mrs. Wilson) will serve as the lead writer. The duo will also executive produce alongside Jamie Laurenson, Hakan kousetta, Patrick Walters, Iain Canning Y Emile sherman, While Andrea cornwell will serve as producer on the project.
Danes replaces Keira Knightley in The Essex Serpent after Knightley cited concerns about COVID-19 when he left the project last year. While Knightley is clearly a bigger movie star, I think Danes is the best actress, so her casting feels like an upgrade for the show.
Danes has spent the last decade working on Homeland, and he’s been in demand for prestigious dramas from both streamers and networks since his schedule was released. The Showtime series was so demanding that the Danes only had time to shoot a few independent films, including Brigsby Bear, between seasons, plus a single appearance in Aziz Ansari |Netflix show Master of nobody.
Apple has been busy building its drama roster, which includes Masters of the air executive producers Steven Spielberg Y Tom Hanks; the spy thriller Slow horses starring old gary; an adaptation of the best-selling novel Shantaram starring Charlie hunnam; Mark Boalnew action thriller Echo 3, which takes place entirely in South America; and the fast-paced thriller Suspicion starring Uma Thurman. The streamer is also developing an adaptation of Blake crouchthe novel Dark matter with Poison producer Matt tolmach.
Reports suggest that Lucasfilm has been looking for a reason to fire the actress for months.
