The last time Kat dennings brought his sardonic style to the MCU was for 2013 Thor: The Dark World, and she didn’t necessarily expect to ever return. But then WandaVision It happened, revealing that the former Jane Foster fellow had not only changed her field of study from political science to astrophysics, but had also earned a Ph.D. However, while his recently revealed knowledge is key to unlocking the central mysteries of exactly what is happening in Westview, his wry attitude towards life has not changed.

While Dennings was excited to get back into the role of Darcy, as she reveals below, it wasn’t exactly the easiest process for her and it required her to do something she doesn’t normally like to do. But she’s still excited to see how people react to the character and also to reveal in which era of the sitcom she would like to be more involved.

How wild is it to be back in the Marvel Universe?

KAT DENNINGS: Very wild, really amazing and unexpected. When I got the phone call, I was like, “What?” I was so excited. I was excited to be in one movie, much less two, much less this one, so I’m so excited. And it’s such a cool and unique show of everything Marvel has ever done.

Of course. When you found out that Darcy was not only going to be an important character, but also a doctor, I mean, that’s a major improvement.

DENNINGS: Huge. He’s obviously been in school all this time and it’s a lot of fun. You can rarely afford a role that started small and turns into something else, so it’s great that I saw some people say, “I’m so proud of Darcy. She started as an intern and now she’s a scientist.” It’s great that people like it and can recognize the journey you’ve made.

Of course. Was there anything complicated about falling back into this particular character?

DENNINGS: Well, it’s definitely a new experience. I had never revisited a role so many years later, so I had to look again and remember who Darcy was. But at the same time, he is now a different person. She is an adult and has become an expert in her field. All I wanted was to make sure I kept Darcy’s essence, but also let it grow a bit.

So you’re saying you actually went back and saw the first two again Thor films?

DENNINGS: Yes. Yes, I did. Just once, that’s all I can see on the screen, but it was a lot of fun looking back. God, the sensory memory of that, it was such a wonderful experience that it was a pleasure.

When you say it sounds like fun, what was the biggest and most surprising thing that you came up with?

DENNINGS: Well, I don’t know. God, I just remember everything about it. I remember we filmed the first one in Santa Fe and I remember the weather there is crazy. I took a nap one day and woke up and there was like a foot of snow on the ground, it was so confusing. It was just a good time. These things that I’ve done mark a moment in my life and seeing them brings me back, so it’s fun.

I’m not going to ask you to say anything about looking ahead because, of course, you can’t tell me anything. But thinking about the wide world of sitcoms, is there a particular era that you would like to be able to participate in?

DENNINGS: Probably the 50s, that’s the aesthetic I prefer, but it’s also very good and very technical. In that first episode when they’re around that time, all the effects were practical. All the dishes and all the food that was circulating, which was on the fishing line like they used to do in the old days and had a live audience. They were very precise about the tactics they would use to shoot, so it was very interesting for me to watch.

So the 50s are the big ones for you. Something you hope you can try in the future?

DENNINGS: That’s probably leading to a spoiler of some kind, so I can’t say a word.
