Could Disney’s live-action ‘Hercules’ remake inspire a franchise? Joe Russo seems to think so

It’s a lot of damn muscles!

Even though there is already a live action Hercules remake, and it’s called “the dinner table scene in The nutty professor, ” Joe Y Anthony Russo (Avengers Endgame; Have you ever heard of him?), Are producing a live-action remake of the 1997 Disney animated film, following in the footsteps of other Disney live-action remakes such as Beauty and the Beast and the next The little Mermaid. It will be written by David callaham (Wonder Woman 1984; Have you ever heard of it?), And well that’s all we know about it …

…until now! Appearing in the Lights, camera, stool the podcastvia ComingSoon), Joe Russo talked about the latest development in his Hercules Redo. And you would not know, it seems that he wants to create another cinematic universe:

“The script is about to appear in a week. We have devoted a lot of time and care to it. It is a movie that was very important to me and my children, something they saw when they were little, and because of that” We have a strong emotional connection with the. Our intention is to analyze everything we do and think about how we can build it, what you can do with this that expands it, gives you different opportunities to tell stories in it. we’re going through the same exercise with Hercules, we can build it, we can build a world out of this and that extends beyond that and is compelling, and I think that’s what the public is craving, right? They want to see something. It’s really cool that they want to lose themselves in it for a decade, so our mission is to bring that experience to them. It is still early! ”

The key moment to land here is “getting lost in it for a decade.” Unless Russo is planning to make a 10-year-long movie (which would be the second longest movie after Snyder Cut – I’m kidding, please don’t tweet me!), It sure looks like he’s planning to do this. A franchise or universe that can support at least a decade of entertainment! Maybe a universe from Greek mythology? MMM …

Speaking with our own Steve Weintraub about the project, Joe’s brother Anthony said to expect the unexpected in the story they are telling:

“I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our perspective as storytellers, it’s not convincing for us to do a literal translation. We’ve already done that with our Marvel movies. We don’t do literal translations of the comics because we think so. you want that story, you can read it. We’re going to give you a different story. I think we’ll do something that’s along the lines of the original and inspired by it, but also brings some new elements to the table.

And it turns out that “the table” could last 10 years and several movies.
