Wanda Maximoff has seriously enhanced her powers in WandaVision. We break down every new power that Scarlet Witch displays on the Marvel show.
Warning! The main spoilers for WandaVision below.
Scarlet Witch has always been considered one of the most powerful Avengers, but WandaVision It has given Wanda a number of new powers and abilities that the MCU has previously displayed. The Marvel series has introduced an exponentially higher power cap for the ailing Avenger, proving that he has only scratched the surface of his potential.
As it was introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda’s powers come from the Mind Stone. She and her brother Pietro (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) volunteered to be among the citizens of Sokovian to participate in Hydra’s experiments with the Infinity Stone. As a result, Wanda developed the powers of telekinesis and telepathy. Until WandaVision, those were the only powers he seemed to possess.

As WandaVision takes place just three weeks after the events of Avengers Endgame, Wanda is still recovering from the loss of Vision. That immense pain seemed to allow him to access a new level of his powers that he had never used before. He suggests that Wanda’s powers are tied to her emotions: the stronger they are, the more powerful she becomes. These improved and added skills will likely lead to a complete tonal change for Wanda in Phase 4 of the MCU. Here are all the new powers and abilities he has exhibited in WandaVision.
Necromancy and raising the dead
It is almost confirmed that WandaVision is a free adaptation of the comic book story “House of M”, in which Scarlet Witch creates an alternate reality to deal with her pain and trauma. Vision appears as a key player in WandaVision even after his death in Avengers: Infinity War. The Marvel show could have easily attributed Vision’s appearance to Wanda’s telepathy. But WandaVision Episode 5 confirms that is not the case.
The episode reveals that the SWORD intelligence agency took custody of Vision’s body after his death. But nine days before the events of WandaVision It began, Wanda broke into the facility to retrieve the body of her lost love. This information, along with the fact that a brief flash of Vision as a walking and talking corpse appeared in Episode 3, confirms that Wanda somehow found a way to bring back the deceased Synth. At the time of writing this article, WandaVision has yet to confirm how Wanda accomplished that. But however she did it, it confirms just how powerful Wanda is becoming.
Ability to create life from scratch
In WandaVision, Scarlet Witch gives birth to twins Billy and Tommy. SWORD agents monitoring the situation in Westview believe that the children, and everything that Wanda created, was the result of Wanda’s telepathy. But after Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) was evicted from Westview, she confirmed that the children were very real; after all, it helped set them free.
Boys were also brought into the world in ways unusual in comics. Wanda borrowed the life essence of Mephisto, Marvel’s version of the devil, to give life to her children. While much theorized, it may play a role in WandaVision, Mephisto’s presence has yet to be confirmed. So Billy and Tommy’s birth had to be modified a bit. But the fact that Monica confirms that they are real provides a great clue for the future of the MCU. Marvel was long suspected of planning to introduce the Young Avengers into the fold. In the comics, Billy (AKA Wiccan) and Tommy (AKA Speed) are members of the group. With their introduction as real living beings in the MCU, it’s a clue that the audience may have met the first members of the team.
At the end of WandaVision Episode 2, Wanda and Vision are celebrating their sudden pregnancy when they hear a noise outside. The pair go out to see a Westview stranger in a beekeeper outfit come out of the sewer. Wanda firmly affirms, “No”, and seems to go back in time to achieve a more desirable result. That power is usually associated with a specific Avenger: Doctor Strange. It has been confirmed that the facts of WandaVision will join directly Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness. Wanda herself will appear in the film in a fairly large role. WandaVision She has yet to confirm why Wanda has these new powers, but her newfound ability to manipulate time will undoubtedly forge a strong bond between her and Doctor Strange in the next film.
Transmutation of matter
WandaVisionThe high-exposure episode, “We Disrupt This Show,” shows Westview from an outsider’s perspective. One of the most peculiar elements of anomaly that SWORD observes is Wanda’s newly discovered ability to transmute matter. If something enters Wanda’s bubble that doesn’t fit her sitcom-based delusion, she transforms it into something that fits the mold. When SWORD dispatched an agent in a hazmat suit to Westview, his outfit was changed to that of the less intimidating beekeeper the moment he crossed the barrier. When Monica tried to fly a SWORD drone in Westview to get a bird’s eye view, Wanda immediately transformed it into a toy helicopter.
This new power is an important reflection of Wanda’s state of mind in WandaVision. She is drowning in pain. But that emotion almost seemed to help her focus and strengthen her powers. Episode 5 of the Marvel series shows that while she is completely immersed in her sitcom delusion, she is coherent enough to acknowledge threats from the outside world. Subsequently, Wanda is powerful enough to erase those objects in the blink of an eye. It’s just another demonstration of how Wanda comes to a deeper and more complete understanding of her powers, and anyone who takes her out of Westview for good will likely regret it.
Massive mind control
Mind control is not a new power for Scarlet Witch, but WandaVision raises the range of your telepathy. Its introduction in Ultron age It showed her demonstrating mind control on a smaller level. She wound her way into the minds of each Avenger and implanted terrifying visions in their heads. But in WandaVision, you can control minds on a much larger scale. The show eventually reveals that Westview is a real city that Wanda took hostage. To make his sitcom dreams come true, he put massive mind control and amnesia on every resident. The vision eventually reaches Norm, who tells the synth how painful and terrifying the experience is. Later, Wanda temporarily exits Westview’s hexagonal barrier and telepathically orders a group of SWORD agents to remove her weapons and place them on Acting Director Hayward.
Wanda has clearly leveled up when it comes to her mind control abilities. It is a reflection of her journey as Scarlet Witch. When the show was announced in 2019, Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege stated that fans would finally see her become Scarlet Witch. WandaVision Episode 5 smartly reminds the audience that Wanda has never actually been referred to by that nickname right now, but it could be significant down the road. Wanda is taking full control of her Scarlet Witch powers, and Marvel’s Phase 4 will likely explore what the consequences of that will be.
