Fortnite removes dominated sniper rifle from competitive playlist

Fortnite has removed one of the game’s Exotic Sniper Rifles from competitive play after community feedback deemed it outdated.

Fortnite Developer Epic Games has removed one of the game’s exotic weapons, the Storm Scout Sniper Rifle, from competitive play following feedback from the community. The popular Battle Royale title is currently in the middle of Chapter 2 Season 5 (the game’s 15th season in total), which has seen the introduction of a new list of weapons under the new exotic rarity, including the Chug Cannon. Heal teams restores squad health and shields deal damage to opponents.

Exotic weapons aside, the fifth season of From Fortnite The second chapter has also introduced a host of new content to the game thanks in part to its current storyline, which focuses on The Zero Point. Supposed to be a portal to other realities, The Zero Point has allowed hunters from other dimensions to reach Apollo Island. This has allowed Fortnite to introduce even more guest characters into the game as skins. So far, the season has added Din Djarin from The mandalorian, Kratos from God of War, Daryl and Michonne from The Walking Dead, Master Chief of aura, and more recently Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe.

However, the current season isn’t just adding new weapons or characters to the game, as Epic Games recently announced via Fortnite State Twitter account that has removed the Exotic Storm Scout sniper rifle from competitive playlists in the game, citing community feedback for the reason it decided to jump the gun. The sniper rifle in question isn’t exactly a new weapon, as it was initially introduced in season nine of chapter one as an epic or legendary weapon, but was vaulted after only one season. The Storm Scout was reintroduced at the beginning of the current season as an exotic weapon, maintaining the same characteristics as its legendary version.

While the basic capabilities of the Storm Scout sniper rifle aren’t particularly noteworthy, its unique function is what makes it stand out from the other sniper rifles in the game. When players equip themselves and look down on the Storm Scout’s scope, they can see where the next storm circle will appear, allowing them to position themselves before other players in the game. It’s likely this feature of the Storm Scout that players felt it was overpowered, which is why they asked Epic Games to jump the gun and keep it out of competitive play.

It’s a shame that the Storm Scout was jumped once more so soon after his return. However, since balance is incredibly important in competitive play, it’s not surprising that Epic Games removed it from Fortnite (if only temporarily) to help maintain the delicate balance of the game’s weapon litter box.
