Lucasfilm confirms that Gina Carano is no longer part of The Mandalorian following controversial social media posts by actress Cara Dune.
Lucasfilm no longer works with The mandalorian actress Gina Carano after controversial posts on social networks. When The mandalorian Released on Disney + in late 2019, fans from the galaxy far, far away were immediately obsessed with Jon Favreau’s show. It introduced great new characters to the franchise and built on established tradition in fascinating ways. While the connection between Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Baby Yoda has been at the heart of the series for two seasons, characters like Gina Carano’s Cara Dune were instrumental in filling the world.
Despite the mostly positive reception of Cara Dune and Carano’s performance at first, the former mixed martial artist has been at the center of multiple controversies in recent months. The controversies stemmed from various posts on Carano’s social media accounts. He made transphobic jokes, repeatedly doubted the effectiveness of the masks during COVID-19, and shared voter fraud conspiracies after the 2020 presidential election. Carano continued to make controversial posts, including recent ones on Jeffrey Epstein and the Holocaust.

Now, Lucasfilm has announced that Gina Carano will no longer be involved with The mandalorian or any other Star Wars Projects. In a statement shared with the press, following Carano as a trend on social networks as Star Wars Fans once again asked to be removed from the franchise, a Lucasfilm spokesperson confirmed that she is no longer an employee of them.
Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. However, their social media posts that denigrate people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.
Lucasfilm’s decision to stop working with Carano de The mandalorian And removing it from plans for future referrals is not a surprise at this point. A sizable chunk of the fandom has been calling for this to happen for the past few months, and those calls for Carano to lose his job only increased with each controversial post. While others may share Carano’s views on some issues, it’s clear Lucasfilm had enough after calling their posts. “abhorrent and unacceptable.”
This news immediately ends Carano’s mandate with The mandalorian, the Star Wars franchise, and probably Disney as a whole, but what will become of Cara Dune’s character now remains to be seen. Lucasfilm’s statement did not mention what the future holds, but it could be removed from the franchise entirely or recast. Cara Dune was expected to be included in the just announced New Republic Rangers before the Carano controversies. Now it will be up to Jon Favreau to determine what to do with Cara Dune. Whether the character stays or is replaced, Gina Carano will not return to The mandalorian or its derivatives.
