RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 2 Episode 5 has it all: a contestant can’t return, a queen returns, a group of girls is born, and RuPaul screams.
The fifth episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2 is the most shocking episode in years. After the pandemic caused a seven-month hiatus, the queens return to discover that one of the contestants has tested positive for coronavirus and will not be able to return to the competition.
After the queens re-enter the Werk Room, RuPaul informs them that Veronica Green will not be returning for this season, but has an open invitation to return for Season 3. Then, three pets enter the Werk Room and take off their hairy heads. to reveal Joe Black, Cherry Valentine and Asttina Mandella. The remaining queens are asked to vote for one of the eliminated queens (minus Ginny Lemon, because she dropped out of the competition) to return!

Most votes go to Joe Black, who was the first queen eliminated in RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2. The girls say they want to see more of Joe Black, so he is allowed to enter the competition again. The main challenge is a Eurovision twist called RuRuVision. The dolls have to sing and dance again. Everyone has to write their own verse and play it. This challenge is an opportunity for the queens to use their creativity and show us what they do so often in the bars of their places of origin. The first group, United Kingdolls, kills him completely. It feels like seeing a great All the stars episode. They are dancing non-stop, their verses are super funny and, most importantly, they have star quality. The second group, Bananadrama, is the polar opposite. His outfits seem basic and the choreography could also come with a crossing guard because he is very pedestrian.
About him Drag Race UK Track “by the sea”, Bimini looks impressive. They are giving you a beautiful 1920s beach body with the perfect color combination. Tayce looks disgusting too, but a bit plain. A’Whora is a bag of chips … but so is Sister Sister! Tia Kofi is an ice cream cone, but it doesn’t suit her. It reads a bit disguised. Joe Black is wind blown and the details are pretty good, but it just won’t make up for the standard dress he wore to the performance. The United Kingdolls win this week’s challenge, earning all four of them a RuPeter Badge. Don’t spend it all in one place, ladies! The other four queens are left to hear criticism from the judges. Ellie Diamond receives strong criticism from Michelle Visage about her outfit, but Graham Norton points out that it is not drag enough. She’s dressed up as a pretty seagull, but it’s more of a Halloween costume / cosplay than a story. Ellie is beautiful, but sometimes her lewks feel like an Instagram photo comes to life. At the opposite end of that spectrum are Tia Kofi and Joe Black. They both lead through the camp and end up not paying enough attention to detail.
RuPaul appears in Queens in a way that has never been seen on this show. Mother is really mad at them for bringing mediocre drag to the track. When Joe Black reveals that he wore an H&M dress to the challenge, RuPaul says: “By the way, the world is ending … I don’t want to see any fucking H&M!” If Katya can have a glow in the two months between filming Season 7 and All-Stars 2, these queens could have borrowed new wigs and clothes in the seven months they had to prepare to return. RuPaul’s disappointment feels justified. She says, “I crossed all the way across the pond. I hope for more!” The bottom two are Tia and Joe. Joe Black is eliminated in the same episode that she returns. Hopefully these queens step up their game next week, because we don’t want Mom to yell at them again. Actually, at the time, she was so mad at them that they should call … her … father.
