Star Wars He is known for his villains and Kylo Ren is one of the most popular. Han and Leia’s son, Kylo Ren followed his grandfather’s path and engulfed the galaxy in a terrible war. Like his grandfather, he was able to find redemption, but until then, he was the greatest enemy of freedom. A formidable fighter, it can be argued that he is the main character of the sequels, as most of it focuses on him and his struggles with the dark.
The continuity for “Legends”, formerly known as the Expanded Universe or UE, is very different from the sequels. One of the biggest changes was the number of powerful Jedi in the post-Endor universe, all of them ready to fight the kind of evil that Ren represented.
10 Could beat Kylo Ren: Leia Organa Solo
Leia’s path to becoming a Jedi was long and difficult in the Legends continuity. For years, he concentrated on helping to rule the fledgling New Republic before finally deciding that the best way to help the people of the galaxy was as Jedi. Trained by the powerful Barabel master Saba Sebatyne, Leia would become an extremely formidable Jedi despite her advanced age.
Leia had years of fighting experience and would clean the floor with her son from another universe. She had fought all kinds of enemies over the years and her lightsaber skills were on point. Her Skywalker heritage also made her enormously powerful in the Force. Ren simply couldn’t compete with his power or ability.
9 Couldn’t beat Kylo Ren: Tahiri Veila
Tahiri Veila was a human child raised by Tusken raiders before entering Luke’s Jedi academy. She would bond with Solo’s youngest son, Anakin, and the two would bond until her death. In the following years, he almost fell to the dark side, but was able to return to the Jedi Order.
Veila, like most Jedi trained by Luke and his companions, was almost definitely better with a lightsaber than Kylo Ren, but her Force powers simply aren’t on the level of someone with Skywalker blood. Ren could use his greatest Force ability to equalize the odds and defeat her.
8 Could beat Kylo Ren: Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker in Legends and Luke in canon are two very different men. Legends Luke successfully resurrected the Jedi and became one of the galaxy’s greatest heroes ever known, fighting his way through all manner of tragedies and never losing what made him a legend. He was enormously powerful and skilled, and he saved the galaxy many times over.
Legends Luke would clean the floor with Kylo Ren. He is Ren’s superior in every way: he is a better and more experienced fighter, he is much more powerful, and he is far worse than Ren. It is doubtful that Kylo Ren is a challenge for him; the fight would be very short.
7 Couldn’t beat Kylo Ren: Cilghal
Cilghal was a Mon Calamari Jedi and was related to Admiral Ackbar. Mighty in the Force, she was the chief healer of the Jedi Order. The abilities came naturally to him and he was able to train other Jedi in the healing arts, healing the sick and tending to the wounded. Unfortunately, her combat skills weren’t that refined and this is where Ren would defeat her.
Cilghal’s healing powers don’t offend her much and her lightsaber skills are proficient but not quite up there with someone like Kylo Ren. He could overpower her with the Force and get close, using his superior lightsaber skills to slice her like a fish.
6 Could beat Kylo Ren: Mara Jade Skywalker
Mara Jade Skywalker was one of the most feared Jedi in Luke’s Jedi Order. As Luke’s wife, she was his second in command and was easily one of the Order’s formidable fighters, a master of all forms of weapons. While she lost her life to Jacen Solo, basically a much cooler Kylo Ren, Ren would stand no chance against her.
Mara’s time as the Emperor’s Hand meant she was pragmatic and powerful. Kylo Ren has been in nasty fights, but he has never encountered anyone like Mara before. He may have an advantage over her, but her vast abilities, both with the Force and in combat, would allow her to kill him quite easily.
5 Couldn’t beat Kylo Ren: Anakin Solo
Anakin Solo was Han and Leia’s youngest son and the one everyone thought was the second coming of their Uncle Luke. Anakin would become the leader of the younger Jedi during the Yuuzhan Vong War, but would lose his life on an important mission while still a teenager. However, his fighting ability and prowess in the Force made him a legend.
Anakin was a very good fighter, but his youth and lack of Force training would work against him in a battle with Kylo Ren. Ren is much more experienced than Anakin and this will make a big difference in their fight. It would still be a tough fight since Anakin was a natural, but Kylo Ren could win.
4 Could beat Kylo Ren: Jacen Solo
One of Han and Leia’s twins, Jacen was the more powerful and thoughtful of the two. For years, his second guess paralyzed him, but he would go through a profound change during the Yuuzhan Vong War. After the war, he would travel the galaxy and study with all kinds of Force-using groups before returning to the Order and eventually falling to the dark side of the Force, becoming a Sith Lord.
Jacen Solo, at the height of his Jedi powers, was one of the most powerful Jedi in history. His understanding of the Force was greater than anyone else’s and that, combined with his years of battle honed with his lightsaber skills, would allow him to easily defeat Kylo Ren, whose entire story is only a pale reflection of that of Jacen.
3 Kylo Ren Unbeatable: Corran Horn
Corran Horn was a Rogue Squad pilot who discovered that his father was the son of a Corellian Jedi. He would eventually join Luke’s Jedi Academy and become one of the most staunch Jedi in the Order. Corran, a formidable fighter, had a weakness: he could not use the Force for telekinesis. While his mind tricks made up for it a bit, the lack of telekinesis would give Kylo Ren a huge advantage.
Horn is easily superior to Ren in combat, but without telekinesis, he would not be able to defend himself against Kylo Ren’s powerful Force attacks and this would give Ren the advantage he needed to defeat the more experienced Jedi.
2 Could beat Kylo Ren: Jaina Solo
Jaina Solo was always one of the most skilled Jedi of her generation, but she fought against that, wanting to embrace her father’s more worldly abilities. He would find a way to combine everything as a Jedi, becoming the Sword of the Jedi, the one who would always be at the forefront of conflict. Saving the galaxy from her brother’s tyrannical rule, Jaina was a legend in her own time.
Jaina has Kylo Ren beaten in every way. She’s better with the Force, better with a lightsaber, and much more experienced. She could defeat him in a lightsaber battle, a Force-based fight, or a starfighter duel. He couldn’t even challenge her much.
one Kylo Ren couldn’t be beat: Kyle Katarn
Kyle Katarn was a former stormtrooper and rebel operative who would learn that he was a Force-sensitive. By joining Luke’s Jedi Academy, Kyle would become an integral part of the Order’s initial success, fighting some of the most powerful practitioners of the dark side. Katarn is a formidable Jedi, but Ren could win.
Katarn was very good and his skill in battle would make for a tough fight for Kylo Ren, but Ren’s greater power would equalize the odds and give him the opportunity he needed against Katarn. It still wouldn’t be an easy fight, but Kylo Ren could win it.
