As the smartest but most stubborn character in Big Bang TheoryIt’s no wonder that Sheldon Cooper has earned himself a basket of nicknames. In fact, he is the character with the most nicknames. Leonard only has a few like Ricardo Shilly-Shally and Speed Of Light Leonard, while Penny has P-Dawg and Roxanne.
Sheldon normally doesn’t mind being called by a name his parents never gave him, but some seem to annoy him. He’s even misunderstood quite a few of them, despite his 187 IQ. He’s not the one who always waits for others to do things for him, Sheldon has gotten a couple of nicknames too.
10 Best: Moonpie
Sheldon is named Moonpie from his grandmother, whom he has also nicknamed Meemaw. Penny eventually finds out about this name, but when she uses it, Sheldon gets angry. He warns her that no one calls him Moonpie except Meemaw.
So why is Sheldon called Moonpie? Well, she has a pretty interesting explanation for it: “She calls me Moonpie because I’m nummy-nummy and she could eat me.” It seems like it will be better if the name comes from a lover than a grandmother, but it’s still adorable anyway.
9 Worst: Brainstorm’s Einstein
Things get a bit complicated for Leonard when Alex shows interest in him. While having lunch in the cafeteria, he tells Sheldon, Raj, and Howard about the situation. He is not interested in Alex, but is glad that he likes two women at the same time. As expected, Sheldon worries. She seeks advice from Penny, Amy, and Bernadette, but pretends she’s talking about strangers.
He refers to Alex as Tondelaya della Ventimiglia, Leonard as Ricardo Shilly-shally, and himself as Dr. Einstein von Brainstorm. Trust Sheldon to give the other petty nicknames as he names himself after the greatest physique ever. It’s an obvious name and the girls can quickly tell that he’s talking about himself, Leonard, and Alex.
8 Best: R2-D-Bag
Howard refers to Sheldon as R2-D-Bag after building the Mobile Virtual Presence Device (MVPD). Sheldon builds the robot in season 4 to protect himself from invisible circumstances in life. The robot has a display panel, a webcam, speakers, and a mobility panel to allow it to move around.
R2-D-Bag’s nickname comes from Star Wars R2-D2 robot character also known as Artoo-Detoo. Star Wars references abound in sitcom and using one of the best characters in the sci-fi franchises to coin a nickname for Sheldon is definitely Howard’s creative move.
7 Worst: honey
There is not much creativity behind “Sweetie”. It could be argued that Penny shouldn’t use those names on other men too, since she’s with Leonard. In fact, the name gives Sheldon romantic ideas and he continues to ask her out.
When Penny tells him a story about a boy she once liked but is sorry she didn’t tell, Sheldon thinks it’s him. She even comes to the conclusion that Penny always uses Leonard as an excuse to be in her apartment, but he is the one she wants to see. Penny is shocked because she doesn’t feel anything for Sheldon. I should call him R2-D-Bag after Howard.
6 Best: Skippy Cavanaugh
As Leonard and Sheldon try to test the superfluid helium theory, they discover that a pair of Swedish scientists are trying to overtake them. Desperate, they try to buy helium from a black market dealer because there is a shortage.
During the meeting in the parking lot, Leonard is careless enough to introduce himself to the merchant using his real name, while Sheldon uses the name Skippy Cavanaugh. He thinks the name is well suited for a shady character who is more likely to be involved in black market deals. To add weight to the nickname, lie that he is a wedding planner.
5 Worst: Sheldor
This is a nickname that Sheldon uses as his username while gaming. World of warcraft at the beginning of the sitcom. It is not such a unique nickname, it is not surprising that its Wow the account is hacked at some point.
During the hack, most of his virtual items are stolen, including a virtual ostrich. This leaves him deeply devastated, but he eventually gets the account back with the help of Penny. Sheldon has gone on to use names like Shelly Ninja while playing, which still doesn’t count as smart by his standards.
4 Best: C3-Pee Wee Herman
Sheldon and Howard haven’t always gotten along. When the two fight in front of Bernadette, she seeks an explanation from Sheldon as to why he is always mean to Howard.
He tells her that Howard is the one who started the fight years ago. According to Sheldon, Howard first described it as a cross between a C-3P0 and a Pee-Wee Herman, a C3-Pee Wee Herman. Sheldon actually has the head of Pee-Wee Herman, but Howard hilariously crossed the line with the C-3P0 Star Wars reference.
3 The worst: stretch
Bernadette convinces her father Mike to go to Howard’s mother’s house for Thanksgiving dinner in season 7. She is not very happy because she would have preferred to watch soccer at home. Since Sheldon knows a bit about soccer, the two end up bonding better than anyone.
During dinner, Leonard has an argument with Penny. She leaves and Sheldon asks Leonard not to follow her. Mike then tells Leonard that “Stretch” (Sheldon) is right and that he should listen to him. In season 9, Leonard reminds Sheldon of this particular nickname. However, Mike never explains what Stretch means.
2 Best: Shelly Bean
Sheldon earned this nickname from his mother Mary Cooper. It’s no wonder she’s the only person who can completely control it. Leonard even likes to refer to her as Sheldon’s only Kryptonite.
Shelly Bean is a sweet and not so complicated name. Not a surprising choice, coming from Sheldon’s mother. She has always been proud of him and has never hesitated to scold him when necessary. With nicknames like that, it’s understandable why the whole gang adores Mary Cooper.
one Worst: The Skinny Weirdo
Leonard and Priya Star trek The cosplay game makes Raj uncomfortable at one point, so he goes to the Wolowitz house to sleep there. When he rings the doorbell, Howard opens it and Howard’s mother, Mrs. Wolowitz, yells from the back, asking if it is his future daughter-in-law who is a doctor.
Ms. Wolowitz then asks if Raj is a doctor too like Leonard and Sheldon. He then refers to Sheldon as the Skinny Weirdo. Surely, Ms. Wolowitz can think of a better name for the person who injured her wrist while helping her put on a dress.
