In the pages of Marvel Comics, Monica becomes a superhero in her own right, adopting various nicknames once she gains special abilities. And now, thanks to the launch of new WandaVision merchandise, it appears the character will follow suit in the MCU.
Once Monica gained special abilities in the comics, she became Captain Marvel first, after the original Mar-Vell. Later, he would change his alter egos to become Photon, Pulsar, and most recently Spectrum. However, what never changed was the base of his superhero costume. In fact, Monica is known to have an outfit that is primarily black and white in design. The suit itself has changed over the years, but the color scheme has not.
Now that WandaVision has passed its midpoint, more and more merchandise based on the series are hitting store shelves. As revealed The coat, Disney has released a new sweater from the series that surely points to Monica’s superhero future. The official WandaVision the sweater is completely black and white, and has a SWORD logo in its center. Of course, licensed merchandise can sometimes be disconnected from its source material, but this specific jersey almost looks like a prop replica.
While this particular sweater has yet to appear on WandaVision, Monica can be seen wearing something almost identical to him in one of the posters for the series. This probably means that, for the next four episodes, Monica will be sporting this SWORD-branded sweater, and that, in itself, is an indication that she may become a superhero on the show.
After all, WandaVision potentially has already given the character superpowers. After being kicked out of Wanda’s reality, Monica receives a medical check-up in “In a Very Special Episode …”, and while the results remain a mystery, there seems to be something completely different about her. Additionally, the series made it a point to show once again that her mother Maria Rambeau’s callsign in the Air Force was “Photon,” which may indicate the superhero nickname Monica will choose in the MCU.
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn like Agnes. New episodes airing Fridays on Disney +.
