the Star Wars The world was recently rocked with great news. Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune in the first two seasons of The mandalorian, is no longer part of Lucasfilm. She will no longer be part of any future projects within the franchise. As such, an important character who had become quite popular, right behind Mando and Baby Yoda, is either gone forever or about to be radically changed. With that, the question must be asked; what does this mean for New Republic Rangers?
During the presentation of Disney’s great investor day, several months ago, a huge list of news Star Wars The shows were revealed to be in development for Disney +. Much of this had to do with the success of The mandalorian. Several of these programs will take place in the same universe. Specifically, Ahsoka, which will focus on Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano, and New Republic Rangers. Not much else has been revealed about the show, but during the presentation, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had the following to say.
“Located within the timeline of The Mandalorian, these interconnected shows, along with future stories, will excite new audiences, embrace our most passionate fans and culminate in a climactic story event.”
Now for those who have been following The mandalorianGina Carano’s Cara Dune had become a New Republic Ranger herself. It stands to reason that his character was a huge part of that show. As a result, Lucasfilm, as well as executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, may need to make some major behind-the-scenes changes.
Gina Carano he had come under fire several times in the past for his activity on social media. Much leaned politically to the extreme right. The final straw came when he shared an Instagram post comparing being a Republican today to being a Jew during the Holocaust. Lucasfilm, in a statement, said that “their social media posts that denigrate people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.” One report stated that “Lucasfilm planned to feature Carano as the star of its own show during an investor’s day presentation in December, but scrapped those plans after his November tweets.” Also noticing that New Republic Rangers “He could potentially have starred in Carano.”
It seems safe to say that Gina Carano was going to be a big part of this interconnected series of shows within the Star Wars universe. So what options does Lucasfilm have on the table? They can simply restructure New Republic Rangers with a different main character, keeping the premise intact. Assuming it’s possible. Again, little information about the series has been revealed.
The other obvious option is recast. The studio could, and probably will at least consider, reprising the role of Cara Dune. Speculating on who could occupy that place is another matter for another time. That being said, there will surely be no shortage of actors who would be happy to have a major role within the Star Wars franchise. Lucy Lawless has been featured as a popular choice on social media. The loss of Gina Carano could become someone else’s golden ticket.
No matter which path Lucasfilm decides to take, it will mean big changes on screen and behind the scenes. An actor who was playing a major character on one of the hottest shows on television right now, set in one of the biggest franchises on the planet, is gone. We will make sure to keep you informed as the situation develops. The news of Gina Carano’s departure was previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
