Burt Reynolds rested in the Hollywood Cemetery more than two years after his death.

Late Hollywood legend Burt reynolds he has finally been buried more than two years after his death. The Associated Press reports that a small private memorial service was held at Hollywood Forever Cemetery Thursday morning with the participation of family members via Zoom. On the day that would have been his 85th birthday, Reynolds’ cremated ashes were placed in a grave by a lake that now serves as his final resting place.

Right now, Burt’s grave is marked with a simple headstone brandishing his name. Mourners have also adorned the grave with flowers, a crown and even a model of the Trans Am of Smokey and the bandit. The tombstone is temporary, as Hollywood Forever president and co-owner Tyler Cassity says a bronze or stone bust of the iconic actor will be commissioned in hopes of presenting it to the public in September, on the third anniversary of his death.

After achieving great fame with his first professional roles in Gunsmoke Y Release, Reynolds would become one of the most popular actors in Hollywood for decades. He is well remembered for several classic hits like White lighting, The longest patio, The cannonball raceand Smokey and the bandit. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for his role on the television series. Night shadow and the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the pornographer Jack Horner in Boogie nights.

Reynolds died of a heart attack in Florida on September 6, 2018, at the age of 82. Soon after, his ex-wife Loni Anderson and their son Quinton held a private memorial service for Reynolds. The actor’s body was cremated and his ashes were given to his niece, Nancy Hess, who serves as the supervisor of his estate. It is unclear why it took more than two years for Burt’s grave to settle in the cemetery, as the family has been publicly quite private about the entire process.

“My uncle was not just a movie icon; he was a generous, passionate and sensitive man who devoted himself to his family, friends, fans and acting students,” Hess said in a statement at the time of Burt’s death.

“He’s had health problems, however this was totally unexpected. It was tough. Anyone who breaks his tailbone in a river and finishes the movie is tough. And that’s what he was. My uncle was eager to work with Quentin Tarantino ( in Once upon a time in hollywood) and the amazing cast that came together. “

There is no question that Reynolds is one of Hollywood’s greatest actors of all time, and he will be in good company at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. He has been buried near the grave of actor Tyrone Power, and the cemetery also serves as a final resting place for other legends such as Judy Garland, Cecil B. DeMille, Mel Blanc, Anton Yelchin, Estelle Getty, and George Harrison. The graves of the last rockers Johnny Ramone and Chris Cornell are also just across Lake Reynolds.
