Destiny 2 has a new Vanguard activity that coincides with the Season of the Chosen, Battlegrounds, and they are a big change from the usual seasonal activities.
Destiny 2Season of the Chosen introduced a new Vanguard activity for players called Battlegrounds, and they are exactly what the game needs right now. In an effort to curb the Cabala Threat and prevent unification between your forces, players will fight off waves of enemies, destroy Cabal technology and eliminate bosses. Battlegrounds are shorter than Strikes, but offer the same kind of high-intensity three-player fireteam action that players have come to expect from a Vanguard activity.
The last time there was a new offering from the Vanguard, it came in the form of Grandmaster Nightfall Strikes. These were first introduced during Shadowkeep and offered players the maximum challenge available through Strikes.

What are battlefields?
Battlegrounds are a new activity available in Season of the Chosen through the Vanguard Operations menu or by locating them on the map. Right now, there are two battlegrounds available: one in Europe and one in Nessus. Two more are on the way, arriving in the coming weeks.
Each battlefield pits the Guardians against swarms of Cabal before reaching a point where three shield generators must be destroyed before progressing. Generators are stopped by bombs dropped by champions and greatest enemies; These can be picked up and thrown into a generator much like the now eliminated Black Armory Lost forges exercise.
After taking care of the shield generators and advancing further through the battlefield, players will find a banner that will allow them to begin the Rite of Trial. This will summon the boss from the battlefield and lead the Guardians to the final stage of the activity. The boss will periodically protect himself and summon enemies called Barbarrers who must be defeated before the boss can continue to take damage. Once defeated, players will be rewarded with a chest and a chance to use their Seasonal Trial Hammer to smash Battlegrounds chests and earn hammer charges.
What battlefields bring to destiny
Battlegrounds are a breath of fresh air for players who have become used to the standard variety of content from Strikes, Dungeon, and Raid. They stand as a contrast to the dungeons, which are more complicated than a strike and at the same time maintain a squad of three. Battlegrounds are a faster test that puts players into action immediately while leaving a sense of accomplishment when completed.
The new activity is also directly related to Season 13’s methods of obtaining gear, Umbral Engrams. Players use the hammer charges they receive at the end of a battlefield to ensure their engram yields loot from a specific group. It all works well together and gives players plenty of reasons to spend time at the Prismatic Recaster located in the new social hub, The HELM.
Battlegrounds offer a fun, satisfying, and fast way to jump into content without resorting to the usual half-baked activities that come with a new season. That said, the activity is only available to Season Pass holders. While it seems like battlegrounds will only be available during Season of the Chosen, it’s something that fills a gap in Destiny 2 many players may not have even realized it was there.
