After seven years of military service, Archie returns home to “Chapter Eighty: Purgatory” and his first stop, of course, is his old favorite place, Pop’s Diner. He realizes that the restaurant is still run by Pop Tate, and while the speakeasy downstairs is in operation, it is now under the direction of the South Side Serpents. Fortunately, some things never change and Archie meets Toni, Kevin, Fangs, and Sweet Pea at Pop’s.

At first, they give you a summary of everything that has happened to everyone since you left, how their lives changed, and how they got to where they are now. Then the next day, Toni gives Archie a tour of Riverdale, and she sets him up for some drastic changes, and doesn’t downplay anything.

Riverdale is now a ghost town, full of abandoned buildings and littered with trash. Most of the neighborhood Archie is familiar with is empty, and the few people that remain are downtrodden or homeless. His old house is a nest for the Ghoulies, there are no firefighters anymore and there are hardly any police officers and the streets are a dangerous place to roam alone.

The answer to how things could have gotten so bad turns out to be Hiram Lodge. The mayor of Riverdale is developing a new neighborhood for the rich and powerful, SoDale, and making sure it thrives as the rest of the city descends into chaos. Riverdale as Archie and his friends knew once that it is no more, but it’s not completely gone yet. Now, it’s up to them to fight Hiram and bring Riverdale back to greatness — bring the “energy” back to “the city with energy”!

Riverdale starring KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mark Consuelos as Hiram Lodge, Charles Melton as Reggie Mantle, Vanessa Morgan as Toni Topaz, M├Ądchen Amick as Alice Cooper, and Erinn Westbrook as Tabitha Tate.
