Just as Angemon was in danger of being corrupted by Devimon by becoming a Digi-egg, Tailmon shows what could have happened if that process had been allowed to complete. As Skullknightmon, he put Hikari’s brother in massive danger and helped Devimon and the Millenniumon cause without much remorse. This also finally fully explains why Hikari left with Skullknightmon so easily as she could still feel Tailmon calling out to her from inside the Dark Digimon.

But although she has been freed from the darkness by Hikari’s compassionate and understanding light, she knows very well exactly what she has done and deeply regrets it. This explains why, in episode 34, “Hikari and Tailmon”, Tailmon felt he had to protect everybody of Anomalocarimon and his Mantaraymon minions on their own as a way to atone or compensate for their actions as Skullknightmon. Her overprotection of Hikari demonstrated throughout the episode can also be attributed to this, as she knew exactly how much danger she had put Hikari herself when she was corrupted. However, it is not until he learns to trust the one who had called that he is finally able to overcome the threat.

In many ways, this dates back to the origin of the original Tailmon, who, having been captured by Myotismon as a Digi-egg, was raised to be evil. Both times, Tailmon ended up putting his partner in grave danger, only to get close to her at the end and receive an unexpected compassion that allowed him to save the day.

Still, the Digimon reboot then takes this trust development one step further in the next episode, where it is revealed that Tailmon knows he can digivolve, and that the empowering light he previously experienced in “The Glowing Angewomon” was the power to digivolve. And yet she is scared. Having evolved into Darkknightmon and experienced the urge of destruction, she fears that gaining power will rekindle the remnants of the darkness that Millenniumon’s corruption instilled in her and cause them to take root, something that almost occurs within the episode.

MarineDevimon’s Millinniumon Fragment allows her to use the dark energy from her tentacles to re-corrupt Tailmon as her anger and desire for revenge against him for hurting Hikari grows, which in turn causes Darkknightmon’s personality to resurface. , just as he had feared. Even scarier, the return of darkness creates a large black shadow in the shape of the evil Digimon, until once again, Hikari calls out and comforts her, letting Tailmon know that Hikari will always rescue her.

With his fears realized, but Hikari’s intervention avoiding any harm, Tailmon is finally able to put his fears by his side and realizes why Hikari is called “hikari”. The name means “light”. She it is the helping hand that reaches out, the light that opens the way, and as long as they are together, Tailmon has nothing to fear from the darkness both inside and out. Upon realizing this, Tailmon is able to put his fears behind him and chooses to fight. with Hikari, instead of for her, allowing her to digivolve Angewomon and do quick work with MarineDevimon.

All things considered, Tailmon’s personality and bow tied to duty, from doing his best to make up for his past mistakes while protecting Hikari, to trusting his partner and working. with her – make Tailmon one of the most fascinating and intriguing characters in the Digimon reboot so far, and we look forward to seeing its continued growth throughout the season.
