Yuta Okkotsu, star of the Jujutsu prequel series Kaisen, makes his debut in the main story under dangerous circumstances.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter # 137, by Gege Akutami, John Werry, and Snir Aharon, available now from Viz Media.
With the conclusion of Jujutsu KaisenIn the “Shibuya Incident” arc, the series has finally introduced the mysterious Yuta Okkotsu into the main story. The star of the prequel manga – Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 0 – Arrives after some significant changes for Yuji Itadori, his friends, and the world of Jujutsu in general come into play.
With Satoru Gojo currently trapped within the Prison Realm, captured by Suguru Geto’s possessed body, the fight between Jujutsu Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits has seriously shifted in the latter’s direction. So Yuta’s performance should be exciting for the fans. However, the jaded and conservative elders of Jujutsu society have decided to pit Yuta against Itadori, blaming Sukuna’s ship for much of the chaos in Shibuya.

The mysterious Yuta Okkotsu from Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu KaisenVol. 0 serves as a prequel to the main story of the series and centers on Yuta Okkotsu during his first year at Jujutsu Tech, a year before Itadori’s journey begins. Yuta’s circumstances are not much different from Itadori’s, and both are destined to be executed for serving as vessels for powerful curses. In Itadori’s case, it harbors Sukuna, while Yuta can summon the Cursed Spirit of her childhood friend Rika, who suffered a gruesome death.
Rika’s Cursed Spirit form, like Sukuna, is terrifyingly powerful, which filled the Jujutsu elders with enough fear to mark Yuta for execution. Satoru Gojo answers for Yuta, as he would later for Itadori, delaying his sentence. Like Itadori, Yuta had little experience with Curses, but her goal was to learn more from him and Rika. Aside from Yuta’s immense Cursed Energy, he can also copy Cursed Techniques. Yuta is a distant relative of a famous sorcerer named Michizane Sugawara, making him the distant relative of Gojo.
After the events of Volume 0 and Geto’s 100 Demons Night Parade, Yuta would continue her studies abroad to hone her skills. Although Itadori has not met Yuta, the prequel star has been mentioned by Fushiguro and Todo with much praise.
Will Yuta and Itadori be forced to fight?
When Yuta finally returns, they don’t get along. He is immediately appointed Itadori’s executioner, with which he has no problem after learning that Toge Inumaki, with whom Yuta is incredibly close, lost an arm due to Sukuna’s vessel. The aftermath of the Shibuya incident seems to shake the Jujutsu world to its core. Not only are Itadori and director Masamichi Yaga sentenced to death, but Gojo is named an accessory to the disaster, resulting in his exile and making it a criminal act to free him from his sealing.
Still, there’s a chance that once Yuta meets Itadori, and if he’s willing to listen to her side, the two of them can bond over their mutual experiences and shared enemies. Furthermore, Gojo is no stranger to operating under scrutiny and has always intended to challenge the archaic traditions of Jujutsu society with this younger generation. Therefore, it is possible that the next arc in the series will be a civil war between Jujutsu Sorcerers, with the cursed spirits benefiting from their potential mutual destruction.
Itadori, Fushiguro, Nobara, and the rest of Jujutsu Tech are far from out of the woods with some pretty clear battle lines. However, if they can convince Yuta of their seemingly vengeful mission, they will gain a much-needed ally with Gojo missing for the foreseeable future.
