WandaVision Episode 6 has a joke that references Kick-Ass, the 2010 superhero movie starring Quicksilvers, Evan Peters, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Warning: SPOILERS for WandaVision Episode 6 – “New Spooktacular Halloween!”
WandaVision Episode 6 features a sneaky joke that references Kick ass, starring the two actors who played Quicksilver, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Evan Peters. Of course, Peters went on to play Quicksilver AKA Peter Maximoff in the X Men film franchise, while Taylor-Johnson was cast as Quicksilver AKA Pietro Maximoff from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now, Peters took on the role of Taylor-Johnson in WandaVision.
Kick ass was a 2010 R-rated superhero film directed by Matthew Vaughn, adapted from comics created by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. Essentially an obscene, ultraviolent parody of Sam Raimi Spiderman movie tropes, Kick ass It was about the misadventures of Dave Lizewski (Taylor-Johnson), a nerdy high school student with no superpowers turned into a loudly disguised vigilante. The film also stars Nicolas Cage as Big Daddy, a crime fighter in black armor, with Cage making the perfect impression of Adam West’s voice as Batman. Kick ass is perhaps best remembered as the breakout role of a young Chloe Grace Moretz as the foul-mouthed and incredibly dangerous Hit-Girl. But interestingly, Evan Peters also played a small role in Kick ass as Todd Haynes, one of Dave’s desperately geeky friends who hung out with him at the local comic book store.

In WandaVision Episode 6, Wanda still cannot understand how or why Pietro, her twin brother who died in Ultron age, not only is it back, but it is played by a totally different person. For his part, Pietro de Peters appears to be the same character with the same memories as Taylor-Johnson, except for the different face. But the cusp of WandaVisionThe meta recast conundrum came when Wanda and Pietro, dressed in classic Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver costumes for Halloween at Westview, dated Wanda’s twin children Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne). When Pietro volunteered to be a good dude and use his speed to maximize his candy loot, the guys responded “kick ass!”. This lit a lightbulb in Wanda’s memory and she too muttered “Kick ass” for herself: a witty nod of appreciation to the superhero movie her two “brothers” starred in before becoming different versions of Quicksilver.
It was always ironic that Taylor-Johnson and Peters were cast as the same superhero, Quicksilver. Even though Fox owned the rights to the X-Men characters while Marvel Studios owned the Avengers, Quicksilver was one of the few Marvel characters (along with Scarlet Witch) that fell into a gray area that allowed both studios to use. characters. This is because Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are Magneto’s children and mutants in the comics, which were featured in X Men # 4 in 1964, but later became members of the Avengers.
Bryan Singer introduced Evan Peters as Quicksilver in 2014 X-Men: Days of Future Past, but chose not to include a version of Scarlet Witch in the X Men films. Still, X Men beat Joss Whedon since Taylor-Johnson’s debut as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron came a year later in 2015. Adding a bit of additional confusion to Quicksilver’s castings, as Peters was ripping up movie screens as the super-fast mutant in Days of future past, Taylor-Johnson was cast alongside Elizabeth Olsen in 2014 Godzilla – where they played husband and wife a year before playing twins in Ultron age.
For WandaVision, Evan Peters has not only played Quicksilver in four X Men movies (including a cameo in Deadpool 2) but has now taken on the role in the MCU that Taylor-Johnson has only played once. However, for both Quicksilvers, everything went back to Kick ass, when Taylor-Johnson was the protagonist (returned to the headline Kick-Ass 2 in 2013) and Peters was the unfortunate sidekick. WandaVisionPietro Maximoff’s spectacular restructuring has finished changing the script.
