There are several methods for collecting fragments. Players can purchase them from the beloved, but forgetful Banshee-44 in the tower, or, if the player is more likely to enjoy battling other Guardians, completing a flawless run in The Trials of Osiris will award shards and high final loot. Regardless of the player’s inclinations, there is a method for acquiring shards suitable for all playstyles in Season of the Chosen.

How to acquire Ascendant Shards in Destiny 2

Simply put, there are six surefire ways to consistently acquire ascending shards. Shards are without a doubt some of the most challenging materials out there, given their drastic benefits. Its rarity is reiterated through the types of quests these elusive gems grant. Ascending shards can be obtained using any of these methods:

Flawless completion in the trials of Osiris

This will likely provide any player with the most significant challenge, requiring seven consecutive wins against other Guardians competing for the same prizes. A single loss will void the player’s current testing pass. Only the first flawless completion will award Ascendant Shards, and subsequent victories will award Upgrade Prisms until the weekly reset.

Although buying Banshee-44 shards is incredibly expensive, it is by far the easiest method (without having the season pass) to acquire shards. The player will need to bring 10 Enhancement Prisms, 100 Planetary Materials, and 50,000 Glimmer to purchase an Ascendant Shard. The planetary supplies needed will change daily, so keep stocked with all of them!

If the player owns the season pass, they can acquire shards by leveling up the pass to rank 80, 85, and 94. Each rank will only provide one ascending shard, so this is not the most lucrative method, but for starting players session regularly, this is a great way to passively get three snippets.

Completing the Nightfall Strike in Destiny 2

This is by far the safest method of farming Shards without dismantling Masterwork armor or weapons. Queue up for Nightfall on Master or Grandmaster difficulty, complete Nightfall, collect the goodies from the final boss chest, and repeat until you reach your desired number of shards. Again, these shards are rare and it is possible to perform multiple attacks without being rewarded. The Destiny community has found that there is around a 33% chance of a drop with a platinum completion of the attack. Raids provide a better opportunity for beloved “Golf Balls”.

The triumph of heightened obsession

This is by far the most tedious method, rewarding only one Ascendant Shard with a minimum of eight weeks from start to finish. This is a suitable method for players looking for a weekly challenge and something to do. The player must complete all eight Augment Triumphs connected to the Braytech transponders provided by Variks. Only one of these transponders can be collected per week, so the player will have to be patient to complete this challenge. Once all eight triumphs are completed, the player will have completed the augmented obsession triumph.
