SNL: Regina King’s Hosting Debut Is A Winner Thanks To Gumdrop Music Sketch

Another great sketch saw a woman receiving mixed messages from her friends through their birthday gifts for her.

The last episode of Saturday night live Mountain range Regina king, dear actor and director of One night in Miami, makes her debut as a presenter with a musical guest Nathaniel Rateliff. King was one of the many stellar SNL The hosts lined up for the month of February, following in the footsteps of the great performances of John krasinski Y And Levy. While the overall King’s quality was solid, useful, and enjoyable for the most part, there are two sketches that stand out as the night’s clear winners.

One of the strongest sketches of the King episode was “The Negotiator,” which already feels like a riff from all of the recent promotions from Queen LatifahCBS update of The Equalizer. In the sketch, King plays a hostage negotiator who arrives on stage from a tense situation. Before going to work, King’s character reveals that he ate all the grass gummies that his partner (Bowen yang) he had in the back of his car and marked them as evidence. The audience knows what’s about to happen before King’s character does, which makes the rest of the sketch a lot of fun to watch. For three minutes, as the weed gummies begin to take over King’s hostage negotiator, we descend into a musical sketch reminiscent of the kings of comedy songs. SNL alum Adam Sandler used to act on the show as visions of human-sized teddy bear gummies (Pete davidson Y Aidy bryant), a demonic Marge Simpson (Melissa Villasenor), and an adult incarnation of the sun of Teletubbies show up and distract the negotiator from doing her job. It’s a trippy treat that lets King be as dumb as him SNL cast members she acts with.

The other big sketch of the night was “Birthday Gifts,” which is actually five minutes of comedy that will make you cry with laughter after two minutes. The premise of the sketch revolves around a middle-aged woman who receives different types of wooden signs from her friends for her birthday. The signs start out cute but quickly focus on a theme that leaves the woman completely lost. As the signs get weirder and more specific, the sketch just gets better and better.

Watch King in two of the night’s best sketches, “The Negotiator” and “Birthday Gifts.” New episodes of Saturday night live airs Saturday on NBC at 11:30 pm ET / 8:30 pm PT. For more information, find out who is hosting the next episode of Saturday night live.
