We have a new trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. This has been a long time coming. Snyder has been working on the legendary Snyder Cut for months after years of fan demand led Warner Bros. to allow the filmmaker to bring his vision to life. Now, the oversized superhero team flick is coming to HBO Max next month. And this trailer offers our best look at the wildly different, extended version of the DC Comics adaptation.
In short, Zack Snyder started what we now know as the DCEU with 2013’s Iron Man. That was followed with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which led directly to production in League of Justice. Due in part to the mixed reception of BvS, the production was frantic. After a family tragedy, Snyder left the project. It was then turned over to Joss Whedon, who oversaw extensive recordings and rewrites. The 2017 theatrical cut did not represent Snyder’s original vision. Soon after, fans began calling the studio for #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.
Finally, it worked. Now, let’s see what Zack Snyder had in mind from the beginning. That will mean nearly four hours of R-rated DC products. In this version we’ll see a redesigned Steppenwolf, the return of Jared Leto’s Joker, Henry Cavill’s Superman in his black suit, and yes, Darkseid. The villain had been teased before, but ultimately didn’t make the cut in the 2017 version. Plus, Martian Manhunter will have some screen time. Those are just the things we know. A lot can happen with such a long runtime.
At Zack Snyder’s League of Justice, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) is determined to ensure that the death of Superman (Henry Cavill) is not in vain. He joins forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) and they set out to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching devastating threat. This proves to be more challenging than Bruce anticipated, as each of the recruits has demons from their past to contend with to go beyond what has been holding them back, allowing them to finally come together and form a league of heroes without precedents. United, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller), the heroes could be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid.
This represents a huge additional investment on the part of the studio. Due to the new initial shots, the budget skyrocketed to $ 300 million. However, the movie only made $ 657 million globally. Much less than many other superhero movies, which cost much less to produce. Finishing the Snyder Cut is said to cost an additional $ 70 million. In total, they could be close to $ 400 million, but the powers that be considered a worthy investment for the company’s biggest streaming game. We will soon know if it was the right decision. Zack snyder League of Justice arrives March 18 on the streaming app HBO Max. Make sure to check out the new trailer for yourself.
