A fan edit of the WandaVision episode 6 opening demonstrates the accuracy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe tribute to Malcolm in the Middle.

A fan edited the WandaVision opening with him Malcolm in the middle theme song, and it fits perfectly. WandaVision is the first Disney + television entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Follow Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) as they are seemingly trapped inside a small town, living out a sitcom-style fantasy. Every episode of the series that changes gender WandaVision Advances through another decade of television history, combining standards of the time with specific references to shows like Haunted, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Brady’s Bunch, and more.

Malcolm in the middle was a popular FOX sitcom that debuted in January 2000 and ran for seven seasons. He followed Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), the third of four (eventually five) children in a dysfunctional working-class family. Malcolm’s high IQ led him to pass the test in the “gifted” class, and he would break the fourth wall to complain to the audience about the school and his family. The series also starred Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, and Cloris Leachman, the latter of whom won two of the series’ seven Emmys.

WandaVisionThe tendency to combine visual references to an era can be subtle, but in the case of episode 6, Malcolm in the middle it was an obvious touchstone. Wanda’s twin sons Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne) even mimicked Malcolm’s fourth wall-breaking narrative throughout the episode. The reference became clearer in the style of the episode 6 title sequence. Youtube channel The GOAT movie podcast demonstrated this quickly by creating a mashup of WandaVision visuals with Malcolmtheme of the song. Check it out below:

This fan edit emphasizes correctness WandaVision‘s Malcolm in the middle the parody is. The font for each character’s name is nearly identical, and the edit includes cuts from cartoons and B-movies from the original title sequence that fully fit the look of the MCU show. However, by using “Boss of Me” from They Might Be Giants, this edition erases the spooky WandaVision cover of a musical theme from the 2000s.

Throughout the miniseries, WandaVision has clues hidden in seemingly innocuous sitcom parody songs. In this case, the haunting lyrics warn Wanda: “Don’t try to fight chaos. Don’t question what you’ve done,” and ask, “What if everything is illusion?“The hectic pace of the song sequence, even when he sees Wanda brushing her teeth, seems to suggest her deteriorating mental state in WandaVision, in addition to the lyrics that bring up his insecurities about what his powers have done to the city. It’s safe to say WandaVision has created the deepest, and possibly the most disturbing, Malcolm in the middle parody ever.
