Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, Sara Bareilles, and Paula Pell are a ’90s girl group in harmony in the new Girls5eva trailer.

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming comedy series has been released. Girls5eva, which follows a ’90s girl group who reunite later in life in hopes of reigniting the band’s spark after a young rapper shows off their signature song. Meredith Scardino created and wrote the series while Tina Fey, whose writing credits include Bad Girls Y 30 Rock, is an executive producer. Scardino and Fey are both Saturday night live Alumni who also served as writers on the Netflix sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Now the writer-actresses are coming together to Girls5eva, which, depending on the trailer, will be available to stream on Peacock Coming soon. The 30-second clip shows band members Summer (Busy Phillips), Wickie (Renée Elise Goldsberry), Dawn (Sara Bareilles) and Gloria (Paula Pell) harmonizing as they perform their hit song. The trailer reveals little about the plot, but lyrics like “I’ll be famous 5 never, because 4ever is too short ” clearly echo the quartet’s dreams of pop stardom.

While the trailer leaves a lot to the imagination regarding the show’s setting, characters, and overall tone, it captures the ’90s bubblegum pink aesthetic that is sure to be a key component of the show’s visual style. Both the eclectic cast, which includes a major player in Hamilton (Goldsberry), a real-life pop singer and musician (Bareilles), the star of the ’90s comedy series Weirdos and nerds (Philipps), and a SNL writer (Pell) as well as Fey and Scardino’s involvement create enough intrigue to allow for a simpler advance. But hopefully Girls5eva’s The full trailer reveals more about the 40 and 50 year old aspiring pop stars.
