WandaVision returned with its seventh episode this week and brought with it some big reveals. We are fast approaching the final and the table is set. Aside from all the craziness that emerged from the latest episode inspired by Wanda and Vision’s sitcom, a Marvel Cinematic Universe lore is back, this time on the small screen. That is, the episode contained a post-credits scene, the first of the season. However, if we’re gambling, this probably won’t be the last we see before the show ends its run.
Warning: spoilers go ahead for WandaVision Episode 7. Read on at your own risk. The episode, titled Breaking the fourth wall, is where things started to fall into place somehow. For one thing, we learn that Kathryn Hahn’s Agnes has been behind all this craziness the entire time, as she is actually a powerful witch named Agatha Harkness. She even got a comedy-style tune that reveals she’s “been ruining everything” and “it’s been Agatha the whole time.” The reveal was made after Wanda decided to investigate Agnes’s basement in search of the twins, Tommy and Billy. It didn’t go according to plan. Now we know who the real villain is. SWORD has wrongly assumed it was Wanda.
Meanwhile, this episode also revealed that Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau has had her DNA altered quite a bit while entering the hex. By confronting Wanda, trying to get at her and end the madness, it was revealed that Monica had begun to develop her own powers. That, it seems, will be an important thread to pull in the coming weeks.
Now to the post-credits scene. Agatha’s evil laugh leads to the main credits. As the credits roll, images appear of Monica approaching Agnes, or should we say Agatha’s basement. She opens the door, demonstrating her growing powers. Then you see the bright purple roots crawling out of the basement. As he investigates, Pietro from Evan Peters, aka Quicksilver, runs up to Monica and says, “Snoopers are going to snoop.” Back to credits.
So what does this mean for next week’s episode of WandaVision? The implication is that Monica and Pietro will investigate what is going on in the basement. Or maybe Pietro is working with Agatha, since something has been wrong with him all this time. That is, it is a different Quicksilver from X Men universe that was not part of the MCU before. In any case, the stage is set for a supposedly epic conclusion.
Probably at least a few more surprises await us as well. On the one hand, there is the identity of the aerospace engineer that has yet to be revealed. Are we meeting Reed Richards? Is it going to be someone completely different? Also, we have yet to see how the program will connect to Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness, which will again star Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch. WandaVision returns with a new episode next Friday at the Disney + streaming app.
