The opening credits of WandaVision parody The Office, but contain a premonitory theme that Wanda will be alone without Vision at the end of the show.

Warning: SPOILERS for WandaVision Episode 7, “Breaking the Fourth Wall”.

WandaVision The opening credits of episode 7 mocked the potential, and perhaps inevitable, division of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). Last week saw a schism among the super-powered Westview newlyweds when Vision lied to Wanda to go off alone to investigate the strange happenings in Westview. This resulted in the Synthezoid attempting to break out of the hex, learning that doing so is lethal, and Wanda expanded the limits of her magic bubble to reabsorb her husband and much of SWORD, turning them into a circus.

Vision and Scarlet Witch are the heart of WandaVision and Westview’s very strange and moody television reality revolves around their unconventional but happy marriage. Days after the events of Avengers Endgame, Wanda somehow learned that SWORD took possession of Vision’s corpse, which was last seen in Wakanda during Avengers: Infinity War. Maximoff attacked SWORD headquarters, stole Vision’s remains, and then magically resurrected him inside the Shangri-La of the Hex, in a television show literally titled WandaVision. But Vision gradually became aware of the fact that his immensely powerful wife was psychically controlling everyone else in Westview against their will. Vision became increasingly suspicious and defiant of Wanda’s wishes and actually tried to drop the hex, thereby learning that doing so would kill him (again).

WandaVision Episode 7 is modeled after 2000 era sitcoms as The office Y Modern Family, with Vision and Wanda “breaking the fourth wall” and talking to a documentary crew in confessionals. But the opening credits of “Breaking the Fourth Wall,” which looks and sounds a lot like The officeThe catchy topic, they are completely about Wanda. Only his name is repeated over and over again throughout the various images, from billboards all over the city, balloons, a license plate, an “I [heart] Wanda’s cup of coffee, and even a sinister ransom note that says “I know what you are doing Wanda.” But Vision, the show’s other star, doesn’t have her name at all until it’s added to the end of the sequence, completing the “WandaVision“title (with the credit of WandaVision is created by Wanda Maximoff).

The division between Wanda and Vision in the opening credits is clearly seen by the fact that “Breaking the Fourth Wall” is the first episode of WandaVision where the two potential customers share absolutely no screen time. Wanda even recognized Vision’s free will when she told her children: “Well, if he doesn’t want to be here, there’s nothing he can do about it.” Instead, Vision is paired with Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), whose memories are restored by the synth. Together, they have a misadventure where they are literally prevented from bringing Vision back to Wanda before the former Avenger remembers he can fly.

Meanwhile, Wanda is trying not to mentally shed during her self-imposed quarantine, but faces Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) with superpowers before Scarlet Witch discovers that her next door neighbor, Agnes (Kathryn Hahn), is a witch named Agatha Harkness who has been manipulating WandaVision behind the scenes all the time. While Vision suspected that Wanda was magically preventing him from returning to her, it could actually be Agatha preventing the pair from reuniting so he could isolate and attack Scarlet Witch.

With WandaVisionThe ending in sight and the show’s big bad revealed, “Breaking the Fourth Wall” could be setting up audiences for the possibility that Vision and Wanda may not have a happy ending. SWORD is out of the hex looking to take down Maximoff and reacquire Vision. Meanwhile, Wanda played directly into Agatha Harkness’s hands the entire time. As Darcy said, Vision and Wanda’s love is real and they belong together; they are also more powerful side by side than apart. No doubt the heroic Synthézoid will come to rescue his wife Sokovian, but when the hex finally falls, there may not be a happy ending where Wanda and Vision can stay together, and the episode 7 credits have already planted the seed for it. .
