Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan has to hurt himself to transform into a Titan … but is he in pain in Titan form?

Attack the titans Eren Jaeger deeply feels the sting of every comrade who dies trying to save him. But can he feel physical pain when he transforms into a Titan and takes immense damage? Are you bound to feel the wounds your Titan suffers?

By Hajime Isayama Attack on Titan introduced humans with the ability to transform into Titans by injuring themselves with the goal of becoming gigantic humanoid monsters. Eren is the only hope for the Eldians to defend themselves against another race of humans (Marleyans) who despise those with the ability to transform into Titans. Eren certainly feels pain every time he bites his hand to turn into a titan. But once you are piloting your Titan, do the wounds cause you pain?

Eren stumbles on his way to learn how to change into Titan form, starting after he is partially consumed by a wild Titan. This injury triggers its transformation. Eren does not acquire the ability to remain conscious while transforming until much later, after practicing the process. The aftermath of the transformation includes immense fatigue, leftover injuries sustained while in Titan form, as well as marks where Eren was attached to his other side. Eren heals while in human form by discharging steam from the wound like a Titan would. Eren is haunted by thoughts of his own inadequacy and by the sight of his friends in the Inspection Corps risking and losing their lives to protect him. Something that he tries to compensate by abusing his Titan form while still killing all the enemies in his way.

Eren cannot initially really remember what happens in Titan form until he gains more control through practice. When he is able to explain what is happening while piloting a Titan from the back of his neck, he says that he cannot really feel the wounds. Titans heal incredibly quickly, recovering from severed limbs and slanted eyes in a matter of minutes. But if a human who can transform is knocked off a Titan, he retains the wounds his Titan suffered. Reiner Braun successfully abducted Eren by biting him off his Titan when Reiner was revealed to be the Armored Titan. Eren’s arms are cut off in the process and he is left without limbs for an extended period of time while his body heals. He can continue to heal like a normal human being thanks to his ability to transform, but it is never clearly explained why he can heal in human form. Attack on Titan.

Transforming humans gain the ability by eating a person with one of Titan’s nine powers that have been passed down for thousands of years. Eren’s Titan is the Founding Titan, called “coordinated” by envoys to infiltrate and kidnap Eren. Eren’s father, Grisha, gifted his son with this cursed power (by letting his son eat it), marking Eren as the savior of the Eldians and the target of annihilation of the Marleyans (not a good gift from birthday).

Eren is quite a sensitive guy and spends a lot of time early in the story complaining about his inability to control his power, but then becomes hardened by hatred for the Marleyans. His intense emotional production shows that he definitely suffers greatly from his Titan powers, but the pain inflicted on him doesn’t seem to have much of an effect. A guy who willingly bites his palm regularly can get used to a bit of pain, so Eren doesn’t spend a lot of time languishing in physical discomfort. It doesn’t seem like the injuries he receives in Titan form Titans attack He hurt him in human form (aside from the lengthy healing process) but treats him more as an inconvenience than constant agony.
