Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin has revealed a heartbreaking future in which Michelangelo became the last Ninja Turtle and embarked on a heartbreaking rage for revenge. Although the explicit fates of Leonardo and Donatello have not been revealed, it is clear that the Pie killed his brothers and Splinter. Now, Michelangelo is trying to murder the Shredder’s grandson, Oroku Hiroto, to find closure, free New York from its tyrannical rule, and bring his family’s story to a true end.

And as the details of your journey are revealed more in The last Ronin # 2, it is clear that the tragic circumstances surrounding the downfall of Splinter’s Hamato family have created the deadliest Ninja Turtle ever.
In the first issue, Michelangelo proved that he was a master at all the characteristic weapons of the Ninja Turtles. In addition to his usual weapons like nunchaku and tonfa, Mikey used Donatello’s bo staff, Leonardo’s broken Katana, and a pair of sais that Raphael possessed with lethal ability. Far from the joker that Michelangelo once was, this Ninja Turtle has become a much more skilled warrior than ever.
After being rescued and cared for by April and her daughter, Casey, in their lair, Mikey appreciates how she has truly become a one-man army. In issue 2, he mentions how Hiroto’s tower fall should have killed him, even though he somehow survived and limped off. April admits that given how quickly he is healing, and that he is bigger than ever, stronger and faster too. If the mud that originally transformed the Turtles is still changing his body, this could give Mikey a very deadly final form.
Michelangelo has also been studying Splinter’s diary and using that information to become the best martial artist. Although he fled into the wild to meditate and die, he ended up killing villains and traveling, shedding blood and training in all the martial arts disciplines he could.
Given how violent he has been to his enemies so far, Michelangelo might even have been changed by the anger he feels after the loss of his family. Splinter always taught them that the mind controls the body, so if Mikey and the physical changes can be a psychosomatic reaction to his mental state and the mutagenic serum in his veins, it is becoming this. He even admits that his mind is fuzzy, indicating that he might be getting lost in the emotions building up inside him.
At the moment, April and her daughter are simply impressed by how much Michelangelo has leveled off his already considerable martial arts skill, becoming the “master of all martial arts.” Each Turtle was a boss in their own discipline and now, blinded by rage, driven by honor, and desperate for a chance to take down their killers, Mikey is basically all wrapped up in one.
In addition to wearing the headbands and weapons of his brothers, Michelangelo is heavily haunted by the ghosts of the other turtles. And with all those voices in his head, Miguel Ángel is also a more unpredictable fighter than ever. And none of this bodes well for the Pie or Karai’s son, because the latest Ninja Turtle seems ready to take down anyone who stands in his way.
