While most of the series will obviously focus on solving the handful of dangling plot threads that Burton left behind, that doesn’t mean it won’t have any connection to The flash. The DCEU’s Flash could easily make a cameo at the end of the series, with the help of Michael Keaton’s Batman. It may seem implausible that a comic sequel to a 1989 film would be linked to a very high-budget blockbuster, but recent trends have shown that anything is possible. The Flash movie met TV Flash in the recent Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths event. Looking at the competition, it becomes even more likely. What is much more ambiguous is the timing of everything. Batman ’89 will be released on July 27, 2021, almost a year and a half earlier The flash November 4, 2022. It could be that DC is playing the long game with Keaton’s Batman and that any reference to the Flash will come later, but it is still unclear how many problems Batman ’89 will be. Of course, there is also the possibility that Batman ’89 it will be entirely yours. It was advertised right next to Superman 78 which has no obvious ties to DC’s broader media empire. Still, eagle-eyed fans should be on the lookout for any reference to The flash when Batman ’89 releases digitally.
