Another DC movie just took a big step forward. Warner Bros. has chosen Angel Manuel Soto (Kings of the City of Enchantment) to direct Blue Beetle. The project had been in the works, in its current form, since November 2018. Apparently, it has been quietly meeting in the background. Now a filmmaker is in place to make it happen, ultimately resulting in DC’s first Latino-starring superhero movie.

According to a new report, Ángel Manuel Soto has closed the director’s concert. It will work from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss bullet). It is not yet known who will star in the title role, but the film will focus on Jaime Reyes’ version of the character. Production is expected to start in the fall. Soto had this to say in a statement.

Blue beetle It’s been a long time looking for a movie. At one point, the plan was to associate him with Booster Gold, but those plans fell through. Jaime Reyes is the third person on the pages of DC comics to have the title. Dan Garrett and Ted Kord previously served as heroes. Reyes was introduced in 2006 in the Infinite Crisis history. It was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner. After his presentation, Reyes went on to lead a solo title in the publisher’s lineup. Reyes gains his powers after discovering a strange beetle on his way home from school. Clings to it and grants Reyes armor, improved speed, weapons, and wings.

This is one of the many film projects DC Films has in the works. Next is Zack Snyder League of Justice, which opens next month, followed by The suicide squad, which hits theaters and at HBO Max in August. The study also has The batman, The flash, Black adam, Aquaman 2 Y Shazam: Fury of the Gods, among others, in various stages of development. DC’s latest effort, Wonder Woman 1984, arrived in late 2020 to mixed reviews and a silent box office, in part due to its simultaneous debut on HBO Max. Warner Bros. will use this hybrid strategy for all of its films throughout 2021.

Blue beetle It was originally created for Fox Comics in 1939 by Charles Wojtkowski. Fox went bankrupt in the 1980s. DC later bought the characters from the publisher and brought them into their shared universe. Angel Manuel Soto is best known for his acclaimed 2020 film Kings of the City of Enchantment.
