the Star Wars The sequel to the trilogy turned out to be a bit of a mixed bag, in the end. While The awakening of the force started with a global success of $ 2 billion that rekindled the franchise, both The last jedi Y The rise of Skywalker they were intensely divisive. But Disney and Lucasfilm have moved on, in large part thanks to The mandalorian. That being said, if you wanted to distance yourself from the sequel trilogy, there is a way Disney could do it, and we must emphasize could, retcon the aftermath.
Lasted Star Wars Fans may have read abundant rumors online in recent weeks / months claiming that Lucasfilm will secretly pick up the sequels. Our goal here is not to examine the validity of those rumors. It also does not mean whether or not the Disney regime should do such a thing. We’re simply trying to explain how this has, in theory, already been made possible thanks to the canon material within the franchise. It all involves something known as the World Between Worlds, also known as the Veil of Force.
First, let’s explain what has fueled the recent rumors and why Disney / Lucasfilm might consider doing something so bold. As mentioned, no matter how one feels about the films individually, there is no denying that both director Rian Jonson The last jedi and JJ Abrams’ The rise of Skywalker they were enormously divisive. That is vitally important when looking at a franchise where everything is canon and everything counts. Novels Comic books. Video game. All of it.
Shortly after Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, it was revealed that they were going to reinstate canon. Any new material, regardless of the medium, would count in the Star Wars galaxy. That means that even though they are moving away from the Skywalker saga, the franchise is anchored in the events of the sequel trilogy. Any other stories that come before or after these movies in the timeline will be connected, in some way, to the stories of Rey, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, and Finn. And the divisive elements must, then, accompany us as well.
So, theoretically speaking, if there was a way for the studio to pick up the sequel trilogy, putting it in an alternate timeline, that might be an attractive option. They wouldn’t necessarily be saying that the aftermath didn’t happen. Just that they happened on a different timeline, assuming the proposed method of reconnecting the movies is used. With that said, doing something like this would be bold and could risk alienating the fans they love. The last jedi me The rise of Skywalker. It would have to be a calculated risk.
What is the world between worlds?
A world between worlds was the title of a particularly important episode of Star wars rebels season 4. The episode took place near the end of the series. For those who didn’t watch the animated series, it centers on a Force-sensitive young man named Ezra Bridger who joins a team of rags in the early days of the Rebellion. Kanan Jarrus, a former Padawan who survived Order 66, trains him in the ways of the Jedi.
In the episode in question, Ezra discovers a portal that serves as a bridge between time and space. In essence, it is a form of time travel that can be accessed using the Force. The official World Between Worlds database entry on StarWars.com reads as follows.
“Behind the ancient painting of the Mortis gods in the Jedi Temple of Lothal is a world between worlds, a collection of paths and gates between time and space. Discovered by the Empire, the Emperor sought the entrance, as the access It would grant him unimaginable power. But the Padawan, Ezra Bridger, found the key to unlocking the world between worlds first, ultimately foiling Palpatine’s plans. “
The World Between Worlds / Veil of Force allows a type of time travel within the Star Wars universe. More important, Star wars rebels it is firmly within canon. Not only did it come after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, but many characters and events from the show have served as springboards for the events witnessed in The mandalorian. This is something that firmly exists in the space occupied by Rey and Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda. It is the same galaxy. Same rules.
How could Disney use the veil of force to replay the Star Wars sequels?
Now comes this great question; How could the Veil of Force be used to reconnect the Star Wars aftermath? This would be surprisingly easy. Ezra Bridger is alive. This has been confirmed by Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni, who was behind both. The Clone Wars Y Rebels, is now serving as executive producer on The mandalorian. As such, the knowledge of this powerful tool remains with him. So it can be used again.
Of particular importance, Lucasfilm is currently developing a whole universe of shows that take place on the same timeline as The mandalorian, about a handful of years later Return of the Jedi. Or, to put it another way, some 25 years or so before the events of The awakening of the force. That leaves plenty of room for the Veil of Force to be used to prevent the First Order from happening. To stop Kylo Ren and Snoke from taking down the New Republic. To stop Palpatine from coming back.
One show, Ahsoka, which will focus on Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano, could be the lynchpin of the entire operation. In A world between worlds, Ezra manages to save Ahsoka from certain doom in his battle with Darth Vader, who served as Star wars rebels season 2 finale. Ahsoka’s fate in dueling with her former master was ominous until Ezra used the Veil to bring her to safety. Indeed, in that moment, it altered the course of history. If Ahsoka had died in her battle with Vader, who knows what would have happened to the galaxy?
Has Lucasfilm already secretly set the Star Wars sequels in an alternate timeline?
This is where things get more speculative and a little further. In theory, it’s possible that the Star Wars sequels already exist in another timeline. That just hasn’t been revealed yet. The theory goes, when Ezra saved Ahsoka, it changed everything. He may have, at the time, prevented the events we saw in the sequel trilogy from happening in the first place.
The timeline where Ahsoka dies could, theoretically, be the timeline of the sequel trilogy. But Ezra saved Ahsoka. She lived. He met Mando and Grogu. He was able to guide Mando into taking Grogu to Tython. Ahsoka made it possible for the little Force-sensitive alien to communicate with Luke Skywalker. She made it possible for Luke to take Grogu and train him in the ways of the Force. Star wars rebels I could have already established this new theoretical timeline. The same one we’ve been following on The mandalorian.
Let’s look at the timeline that Ahsoka dies. In that scenario, Luke probably doesn’t communicate with Grogu. It seems far less likely that their paths will cross. The current canon, specifically The rise of Kylo Ren comedian, has stated that Ben Solo, before becoming Kylo Ren, was Luke’s first student after Return of the Jedi. The situation with Grogu contradicts that on some level. This could be used as fuel to ignite the multiple timeline theory.
There is also the question of Ahsoka’s brief role in The rise of Skywalker. We hear Ahsoka’s voice at the end of the movie with all the other dead Jedi when Rey communicates with them during her battle with Palpatine. This implies that Ahsoka is also dead. Again, this could be taken as a sign that Ahsoka died in the timeline in which the aftermath exists. That is not the case in the Rebels timeline thanks to Ezra’s actions in A world between worlds.
Disney’s plans for The mandalorian season 3, Ahsoka, New Republic ranks, and all the future of Star Wars, remain largely mysterious. It is not known if the Veil of Force will be used again. Yes A world between worlds it will be used to alter the entire franchise framework. But it could be, and it’s important to reflect on that as we look to the future.
