Since Zack Snyder has revealed that there is a big surprise cameo from a fan-favorite superhero at the end of Zack Snyder’s League of Justice, fans have been speculating on several different characters that may fit that description. And one such speculation includes fans hinting at the return of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan / Green Lantern.
But, Reynolds has now debunked those speculations and publicly denied his involvement with the Snyder Cut. Reynolds opened up about the ongoing discussion about his surprise cameo after voice actor Jon Bailey posted a tweet positively stating that it is Reynolds’ Hal Jordan who would debut as the DCEU’s Green Lantern in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League. Ryan Reynolds didn’t take the time to debunk these rumors and successfully dismissed them before they could make the news. However, he did not hesitate to be a bit playful saying that his suit remains on his “computer”. But that’s nothing compared to what he pulled out Deadpool 2, where he committed suicide before he could enroll in Green Lantern.
Notably, Ryan Reynolds played Hal Jordan’s version of Green Lantern in the 2011 film. Green Lantern. The movie was supposed to be the first in a new line of DC movies. The movie even hinted at a Sinestro-centric sequel, and the studio had even authorized the writers to start preparing a script. However, the film’s poor box office performance and critical reception led DC and Warner Bros. to reconsider the future of the franchise and, two years later, it was directed by Zack Snyder. Iron Man hit theaters. Later, screenwriter David S. Goyer confirmed Iron Man like the first DCEU installment. Since then, we’ve witnessed a troubled fate for the DCEU, especially since Zack Snyder’s departure.
Though Green Lantern It’s a DC Films ticket to forget; However, last year’s Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earth, which was part of interconnected television productions focused on DC ComicBook superheroes, has made all previous and ongoing DC films, as well as the canon of television series; which means that all those productions exist in alternative timelines, but under one roof. The event also featured Reynolds Green Lantern movie, which among these new canonical multiverses, takes place on Earth-12.
Probably this new multiverse setup led some fans to come up with such speculation. The interconnection has already seen previous versions of Superman, Brandon Routh, and Tom Welling reprise their movie roles. Superman returns and television series Smallville. So, it was no wonder people expected a possible return from Reynolds, who has now become famous as Marvel’s antihero.
However, Reynolds will not appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice LeagueIt does not mean that we can never see it again; but fans can surely live without it.
