Netflix is in early development on a Terminator animated show from Mattson Tomlin, the writer of The Batman, but plot details are unknown.

Netflix has asked for a new Terminator anime style show straight to the series according to Variety. The project is being written by The batmanMattson Tomlin, who will also be the showrunner. Netflix is working with Skydance to produce the series, and Production IG will be responsible for animation after working on Ghost in the shell Y B: the beginning. The show is in the early stages of development right now, so no details of the plot are known at this time. It’s also unclear when it will be released. Tomlin issued the following statement on his vision of the Terminator animated show:
Anyone who knows my writing knows that I believe in making big changes and betting on the heart. I’m honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach ‘Terminator’ in a way that breaks convention, subverts expectations, and has real guts.
After four Terminator Missing sequels, the endless possibilities that come with animation are an exciting development for the franchise. It would not have been very surprising if another Terminator movie to be announced given the franchise IP. Bringing the series to the small screen for an anime show will be at least a drastically different way for the franchise to evolve. This format also seems to be what gets Tomlin excited about the project, teasing that it will break convention and subvert expectations.
