Before yesterday’s Pokémon Presents, a screenshot of Pokémon Legends: Arceus showing a slide of screenshots of the game. Leakage Pokémon Leaks Center states that translating the slide brought new details to the game’s battle system. Combat is now based on energy and there is no transition between world and battles, according to rumors. Instead, the battle system would be an ATB system similar to Final Fantasy 7 Remake. However, they also state that if the player has no Pokémon, the main character is attacked, and if enough damage is done to the main character, the battle will be over. This would be the first time in the series if this were true, but as with all leaks, this should be taken with a grain of salt. Although the Pokémon Leaks Center is known for fixing the leaks.
– Perfect battle transition
– It is not turn-based like classic Pokémon games, but an ATB system where you select an attack.
– If you don’t have any Pokémon, your main character will be attacked.
– If the main character takes enough damage, the battle will end.

If all of this supposed information were true, it would be an even more drastic change to the Pokémon formula than expected. Pokémon has never had an action RPG-style battle system, much less the character trainer being able to be attacked. The trailer of Pokémon Legends: Arceus had a chance where the trainer chooses between four different moves in a layout that looked a lot like a turn-based combat system. However, how the battles will work beyond that shot is still unknown, and there are said to be action and role-playing elements.
Because of this, these translations should be taken with a grain of salt, even if they are from a seemingly leaked screenshot. There are many things that we do not know Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and it remains to be seen how different the game is from the central formula. Hopefully things will become clearer in the coming year. Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ launch in early 2022.
