In “Chapter Eighty-Two: Back to School”, Jughead begins to have two jobs. He has become a teacher along with the rest of his friends and also works as a waiter at Pop’s restaurant, which is now under the new management of Pop Tate’s daughter, Tabitha. In his spare time, Jughead has been writing his new novel, which will once again be based on Riverdale. To learn more about the people who live in the city, Jughead begins by interviewing Tabitha. Later, she points him to the address of a man who lives on the outskirts of town, a man who has a story that could be incredibly interesting for his novel.

Jughead travels to the man’s junkyard home, where he is greeted by haunting statues of winged creatures made from scrap metal and spare parts. Old Man Dreyfus welcomes Jughead into his home and tells him all about the mystery of the Mothmen.

The old man explains that several decades ago, he and his friends began working at a Riverdale mine. He claims that every night, his co-workers were brought in one by one. Each was only missing for a day, but they all told the same story: They were taken away by what they came to call the Mothmen.

While Old Man Dreyfus claims his friends were abducted by aliens, Jughead isn’t exactly ready to believe him. He asks why he had never heard of this before. Dreyfus advises Jughead to find old newspaper articles about the Mothmen.

The next day, Jughead does some research and discovers that all of Dreyfus’ co-workers who claimed they were abducted by aliens are dead. In fact, they all died from cancer, which may not be a coincidence at all. He theorizes that perhaps everyone could have been exposed to the same radiation aboard a theoretical spacecraft, even if you realize how ridiculous that sounds.

At this time, there are no answers about the Mothmen. Riverdale you just introduced this new mystery to get Jughead sinking his teeth in, and his investigation is sure to unearth another secret chapter in Riverdale’s history. Are there aliens in the CW series? Not yet. But all of that could change as the season progresses.
