Superman & Lois are taking note of The WB’s Smallville by remixing Clark Kent’s greatest Kansas romance.

WARNING: The following contains significant spoilers for “Pilot,” the series premiere of Superman and Lois.

The WB Smallville dived deeply into the romance between Clark Kent and Lana Lang, expanding their romantic story in a way the comics never did. In Superman and Lois In this case, it’s Clark Kent’s son Jordan (Alex Garfin) and Lana’s daughter Sarah (Inde Navarrette) who are shaping up to be the new couple on Smallville, with the same drama and theatricality fans saw when Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk were teenage heartthrob. on primetime television. Here, when Clark and Lois return for Martha’s funeral, they meet Lana, her husband, Kyle, and Sarah. It’s an awkward meeting for the parents, not because of Clark and Lana’s dating history, but because of a political issue between Kyle and Lois. However, that doesn’t deter teens from dating. Jordan’s brother Jonathan has a girlfriend in Metropolis, and Sarah wasn’t even interested in giving him her number. However, after she hooks up with Jordan, she slips him over during a bonfire later that night.

Jordan had a crush on her the last time they visited, so this is perfect for him, especially since he has been battling his social anxiety as well as issues with Clark and Lois constantly sacrificing family time for their reporter work. . And as the episode progresses and Jordan discovers who his father really is, the show places him in a similar situation to Welling’s Clark, as he also has to deal with the responsibility of the powers-that-be. His father is already warning him to be discreet, but he already seems to want to tell Sarah. In fact, since he hurt his father, he kept his identity as a Man of Steel a secret for so long, it will only encourage him to want to open up more with Sarah.

To make things even more similar to Smallville, a love triangle is also brewing. Just like Lana and Clark teamed up for astronomy in that series, only to have her boyfriend Whitney come between them, Jordan has Sarah’s boyfriend Sean to deal with. At the stake, as the duo talk about their anxiety and depression, Jordan unknowingly kisses Sarah, causing Sean to punch him and a fight ensues in which Jordan’s abilities go a bit insane.

Fortunately, Jordan was not discovered, but this is likely to turn into a rivalry, possibly one that could see him have to learn to hold back. So while this weft thread is essentially a retread of Smallville, With Jordan and Sarah, it’s a bit more than just hobbies, which will hopefully paint a more nuanced story.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Dylan Walsh, Alex Garfin, Jordan Elsass, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette, and Wolé Parks. The series airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
