It’s no secret how frustratingly good two shoes are portrayed to most of the anime’s protagonists. His no-kill code, while admirable, is never practical. However, these protagonists always put their ethical and moral codes above all else, which is why they end up making highly questionable decisions.
That’s why it’s quite refreshing for fans to see heroes on screen who don’t hesitate to kill baddies, whenever the need arises. Whether criminals, supernaturals, or sometimes even innocent humans, these heroes never hesitated before slaying their prey.
Note: “Hero” here means the main characters in the series.
10 Shino (Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East) – kills demons without hesitation, despite being just a child
Despite his 13-year-old appearance, Shino actually harbors the powerful sword spirit Murasame on his arm. Throughout the anime, he is shown to bravely persecute spirits and demons that threaten the lives of innocent people, especially his loved ones.
He shows no pleasure or remorse in killing these creatures. He simply treats them as jobs for him to complete.
9 Shichika (Katanagatari): No sense of right or wrong, kills whoever tells him to kill
Since he grew up isolated on his island, he had no idea what was right and what was wrong. As a child, he killed his father to protect his sister.
As an adult, even when Togame took him on a special mission, he had no problem killing people. An example was when he killed the kind Meisa Tsuruga, simply because she had challenged him to a duel. Even Togame was shocked by his actions.
8 Tanjiro (Demon Slayer): Although he does not enjoy it, Tanjiro kills demons to protect humans
Even when he was not a demon slayer, Tanjiro had the will to kill demons. This was seen during his encounter with the temple demon, where despite his hesitation, he wanted to kill the creature.
Of course, after he was accepted as a demon slayer, his only duty became traveling to new places, finding people to help, and killing demons along the way.
7 Eren Yaeger (Attack On Titan): A good boy who finally goes numb to kill innocent humans
Eren started out as a typical shonen protagonist who would turn into a Titan and kill other Titans with sheer rage. Let’s not forget that his only goal was, in his own words, to kill all the Titans.
However, he eventually became a villain. One of the best examples of this would be his conscious transformation into Marley, which resulted in the deaths of Marleyans and Eldians, most of whom were innocent bystanders.
6 Rimuru Tempest (that time I got reincarnated as a slime) – his one and only solution to everything is to kill his enemies
Many isekai protagonists have no problem killing people, so as one of the most popular isekai heroes in recent times, Rimuru’s name among characters who have no problem killing comes as no surprise.
Throughout the show, whenever Rimuru is faced with an obstacle, he or his minions instantly eliminate it. Perhaps one of the most memorable times he killed someone was when he consumed Shizue, even though he did so at her request.
5 Favaro (Shingeki No Bahamut): a bounty hunter who has no qualms about killing anyone who stands in his way
Money is the most important thing for Favaro, and he resorts to unscrupulous means to get what he wants. This often results in him killing not only bounties with massive bounty on their heads, but also any other human bounty hunters that come his way.
Towards the end, he changes his beliefs and targets only the bad guys, as seen when he captured (and later killed) Gilles de Rais.
4 Sebastian Michaelis (Black Butler): without a moral compass, this demon butler kills whoever stands in his master’s way
Since Sebastian is a demon, he has no problem killing people on the orders of his master Ciel. In fact, on many occasions, he has been shown to really enjoy killing human and supernatural creatures.
One of the most iconic moments was perhaps from Book Of Atlantic, where he could be seen smiling while standing in a pool of blood and the corpses of strange dolls.
3 James Moriarty (Moriarty the patriot): he takes great pleasure in giving the nobility the treatment they deserve
Even when William was a child, he held his beliefs above all else. That is why his dislike of his adoptive family (the Moriartys) and his brother Albert’s obedience ultimately resulted in his family being killed by fire.
As an adult, he helped the poor get revenge on the nobility, which always resulted in those people simply killing the rich as revenge.
two Lio Fotia (Promare): Has no problem killing people, but only when necessary
Lio prided himself on his Burnish philosophy of killing only when necessary. However, after witnessing and even falling victim to Kray Foresight’s intense cruelty towards the Burnish, Lio lost all control.
His Burnish flames manifested into a raging dragon that destroyed a large part of his city. He did not show the slightest sympathy for the innocents whom he may have injured and killed. He was able to eliminate an entire government task force and nearly managed to kill Kray as well.
1 Lin Xianming (Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens): a former assassin who kills for money, but now kills to protect his friends
As an assassin who killed for money, it’s no wonder to see Lin among other characters who have no problem killing. However, the surprising thing is how Lin had no problem killing even people she knew to be innocent.
The tone for this was set in the very first episode itself, where she killed an innocent girl (for no reason) just to get to her real target: her boyfriend.
