The penultimate episode of WandaVision reveals something huge about the Mind Stone and could explain Thanos Soul World’s visit in Avengers: Infinity War.
By WandaVision Episode 8, titled “Previously In”, explains the scene from Thanos’ Soul World from Avengers: Infinity War. To obtain the Soul Stone in Vormir, Thanos sacrificed his daughter Gamora, throwing her off a cliff in exchange for the Infinity Stone that brought him one step closer to achieving his dire goals for Earth. After wiping out half the world’s population, the Soul Stone was able to communicate with the Mad Titan, showing him a young version of Gamora while he was inside the stone. In By WandaVision In the penultimate episode, Wanda is forced to take a trip down memory lane by the recently revealed witch Agatha Harkness. She revisited several key moments in her life: watching old American comedies with her parents and twin brother Pietro in Sokovia, the death of her parents, becoming a volunteer for HYDRA experiments, getting closer to Vision, and the moment when brought Vision back and created a sitcom reality out of Westview. However, it is Wanda’s connection to the Mind Stone (which increased her already present powers) that allowed her to communicate with Vision within the alternate world she created.
The Mind Stone was effectively showing the Scarlet Witch the person she loved and desired the most, seemingly driven by her incredibly raw emotions of pain at the time. It makes sense because Wanda had just returned from seeing Vision’s body, which was being dismantled by SWORD, and being so close to him once again confirmed that she could no longer feel his presence. Thus, the powers of the Mind Stone allowed him to do so again by bringing him back. In all, the resurgence of Wanda’s Vision gave her what she wanted based on her most dominant emotions at the time of her recreation.
This lends credence to the idea that Thanos was able to see Gamora immediately after the snap. Infinity war because she still felt pain from her loss even though he was the one who killed her. With the feelings of the Mad Titans being so powerful, the Soul Stone revived young Gamora, perhaps knowing that he longed to see and speak to her one last time after what he did. Their exchange saw her question her actions in a brief moment of doubt before he was returned to the real world. With that in mind, it is possible that the Infinity Stones only act on intense and intense emotions, which would also explain why Tony Stark was able to see his daughter in Soul Stone in a deleted scene from Avengers Endgame.
Basically, Thanos and Wanda were able to manifest Gamora and Vision through the stones of the soul and mind because it was their heart’s desire to see the people who mattered most to them in a time of emotional vulnerability. The revival scene in WandaVision offers more clarity on what happened to Thanos and talks about the powerful and enhanced abilities of the Soul Stones. Surely there is much more to discover regarding Mind Stone’s abilities, but the fact that it revived Vision the way it did with Gamora indicates the strong connection the Infinity Stones cultivate with their users and explains a great deal.
