You haven’t seen much of the Hulkling and Wiccan since the end of Empyre. The two Young Avengers fled to Las Vegas to get married, and things have been remarkably quiet for them ever since.

In King in black, Hulkling and Wiccan are back, and the bonding issue opened up with the two accepting gifts from different aliens and the Hulkling making promises on behalf of the Kree-Skrull Alliance. However, the Shi’ar Empire arrives with a wedding gift and a warning about the future. Emporer Hulkling

The vice chancellor stated that the Shi’ar Empire had been watching closely as the Hulkling took the throne with his “court magician”. They were impressed that he was young, but he took the throne and ruled his subjects well. The Shi’ar Empire considered him rare and regarded the Hulking as a good king, who seemed destined to one day become their enemy. Despite this, a wedding gift was offered: a robot that dispenses champagne and tickets to the Shi’ar homeworld for a week-long honeymoon.

The Hulkling and Wiccan agreed on the condition that they take Lauri-Ell, Hulkling’s Skrull security detail and the new Accuser, as the third wheel. The two ended up relaxing at a luxurious beachside resort and seemed ready to finally kick back and enjoy their honeymoon when a symbiote dragon attacked them. It turned out that Knull sent him to kill the Emporer Hulkling because there can only be one king in Knull’s world. This means that everyone in the Shi’ar home world was in danger due to the Hulkling Emperor. While Lauri-Ell wanted to protect her Emperor, she went to find an escape shuttle, and the Hulkling and Wiccan led the battle to the attacking symbiotes.

Hulkling

The Hulkling realized that some of his own soldiers had turned into symbiotes and wanted to save them rather than fight them. To take it even further, the Hulkling was asked to escape, but he refused to leave without saving everyone on the planet. He was not only going to save his people, but everyone who was there, regardless of race or origin. He ordered an escort fleet to take everyone on the planet to safety outside of that specific system and then wait for his word. This was a bold plan, but one that could work if given time. The Hulkling and Wiccan then attacked Knull’s invaders head-on in an effort to repel the invaders.

Wiccan used his powers to save the soldiers from the symbiote infection, and the Hulkling made sure they stayed safe. Thanks to their efforts, the planet was evacuated and many lives were saved. When all was said and done, the Shi’ar Empire thanked the Hulkling and recognized that it was his leadership that saved millions of lives, making history in the process. The new Emperor’s efforts have undoubtedly gone a long way toward forging a valuable alliance with the mighty Shi’ar Empire that will undoubtedly prove useful one day.
