Pokémon: 10 battles Ash would have lost in games

Ash Ketchum is a coach that fans have seen grow over the past decade in the Pokemon anime. He begins his adventure very awkwardly, sleeping in late and even finding it difficult to control his Pokémon at times. With little knowledge of type pairings and an uncanny will to unleash even his strongest Pokémon, Ash has made most of his battles harder to win.

In Pokémon: Indigo League, gym leaders often sympathize with him or he’s incredibly lucky. In games, Ash would not have this kind of luxury. He would have to win his battles fairly, which would be more difficult to do since his bag has much less space than Red’s, and he doesn’t really use potions in battle.

10 Brock’s gym battle can’t be won just by putting the sprinklers on

Brock raises his thumb

In Red pokemon, Yellow Y BlueBrock is the first gym leader the coach meets. Depending on the opener the player chooses, this battle can be extremely difficult or very easy. For Ash, this battle would be absolutely impossible. With his partner Pokémon, Pikachu, and his Flying-type Pigeotto, he’s gotten off to a rocky start on his Pokémon journey. In Pokémon: Indigo LeagueAsh can achieve a victory by activating the sprinkler system, but in games, he would be crushed.

9 Gary Oak / Blue will not give Ash a chance to rest or heal his Pokémon

Blue smiling

Blue, often referred to as Gary Oak thanks to the anime, has a knack for showing up at the worst of times. Unlike rivals in recent games, there is no way out of a battle with him, making him famous for being one of the toughest rivals in games.

After the player finishes fighting the Elite Four without having a chance to go to a Pokémon Center, Blue is waiting at the end with a difficult lineup of Pokémon.

8 Red would destroy Ash’s unevolved Pokémon with his fully evolved Pokémon

Red raises a fist while Charizard is behind him.

Even more famous than Blue, Red is known to be one of the most powerful opponents a trainer can fight at the end of the second generation of Pokémon games. He opens the battle by sending in his level 81 Pikachu, which is still tough despite being his weakest Pokémon. Unlike Ash, who didn’t prioritize evolution, Red took the time to fully evolve his three Kanto holders. Red is the Pokémon Champion of Kanto and it is a well deserved title.

7 Whitney would crush Ash’s team with the launch of his Miltank

Whitney raises her fists next to Miltank

Similarly to the anime, his Miltank’s Rollout is the scariest move in Pokemon Silver Y Gold. Although his Clefairy may not be very strong, once his Miltank starts racking up Rollouts, he can burn out a coach’s entire team. Unlike the anime, Whitney wouldn’t give Ash the courtesy of using three Pokémon at once against his Miltank. Unless Ash was lucky enough to paralyze the Miltank, his team would be crushed.

6 Cynthia has a terrifying team led by a Garchomp that would crush Ash

Cynthia extends her arm

Cynthia, the champion of the Sinnoh region, has a powerful lineup of Pokémon that are fully evolved. Players consider the battle against her to be one of the most difficult battles they have ever experienced, largely due to the sheer power of her Garchomp. Similar to the final battle with Champion Blue, Ash would be incredibly weak after taking on the Elite Four members, and like all the other trainers, Cynthia wouldn’t take it easy.

5 Articuno would be a tough opponent waiting at the end of a tough ride in Mystery Dungeon

Articuno flies up into a cave.

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, the two protagonists are on the run from many teams that are chasing them. They have to climb Mt. Freeze, an icy dungeon that is overwhelmingly cold. It contains 20 floors, all of which contain enemy Pokémon that chase and attack players relentlessly. If this wasn’t difficult enough, Articuno is at the top. Even with a full team of Pokémon, these circumstances would make it difficult for Ash to win.

4 Grandmaster Greevil would completely destroy Ash with his shadow Lugia and legendary birds.

Greevil sends a Pokémon

In Pokémon XD: Gale Of Darkness, the trainer has to detect and catch the Shadow Pokémon that are being used for nefarious purposes. In the final battle against Greevil, the trainer is expected to be able to catch all the Pokémon he sends.

It begins by summoning a Shadow Lugia and follows it with the three legendary birds. Ash’s Pokémon couldn’t even tickle the legendary birds in Pokémon 2000, so he wouldn’t have a chance.

3 Roxanne has rock types that resist the limited attacks of Ash’s Pokémon

In Emerald Pokémon, Roxanne is a gym leader who specializes in Rock-types. Ash was able to catch a Treecko at this point in the anime, but he was only aware of Pound and Quick Attack, normal-type moves that are hardly useful. Pikachu is an even worse showdown, as it is an Electric-type Pokémon. Pitting these two against two Geodudes and a Nosepass wouldn’t end well for Ash until he properly taught his Treecko some Grass-type moves.

two Kecleon will call his friends to get over Ash

Mudkip and Bulbasaur try to rob Kecleon

Kecleon is another powerful enemy in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, if it makes him an enemy. All the player has to do is steal an item from Kecleon’s shop in any dungeon, and this will cause Kecleon to request a large number of other Kecleons to punish the thief. Realistically, the best way out of this situation is to head to the nearest flight of stairs, but even the most powerful Pokémon couldn’t withstand this assault.

1 Evice possesses a powerful team in the Pokémon Colosseum that would overwhelm Ash

Evice prepares to fight the player

The leader of the evil organization, Cipher, in Colosseum Pokémon, Evice fights the coach after revealing her true identity. It features some incredibly powerful Pokémon, such as Salamence, Slaking, Machamp, and a Shadow Tyranitar, its most powerful Pokémon. Although Nascour, his henchman, played the role of being Cipher’s boss convincingly by giving the player a tough battle, Evice is definitely stronger.
