Robin Wright reveals how Patty Jenkins convinced her to join ‘Wonder Woman’: “She really pushed for her movie”

Wright highlights the qualities of Jenkins that she most admires as she began her own career as a feature film director.

After the release of Wonder Woman In 2017, I became convinced that we needed a full-length film dedicated to the Amazons. And now, since the Themyscira sequence is my favorite part of Wonder Woman 1984In addition I am convinced that a Themyscira-set function is an absolute must. Yes, the impressive images and the majesty of the island are of great attraction, but an especially great attraction here is the set of Amazonian warriors led by Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin wright like his sister Antiope.

We talk about his involvement in the Wonder Woman movies in both interviews, but right now we’re putting the focus on what Wright had to say about joining the franchise. As we pave the way from the beginning of his career to his latest film, land, investigated her decision to sign up for a massive franchise film, something she called a “no-brainer.”

“Patty Jenkins, the director, her excitement on the phone when she called me, because she was filming House of Cards at the time, she called and said, ‘Do you want to play one of the greatest female warriors in the Amazon nation? ‘I was like,’ Of course! ‘ [Laughs] It was a no-brainer. I was like, ‘That’s going to be a hoot.’ And we managed to get in the best shape of our lives training for that movie at 50 years old. I was like, ‘I’m on it. Let’s go for it. ‘ I adore her and I loved the messages in both movies. [They’re] really about justice, equality and love, and I love that. ”

That’s already a ton of items for the “pros” column, but Wright went one step further when it came to the director. Patty jenkins. What if Wright had the opportunity to direct a movie the size of a blockbuster like Wonder Woman herself? What qualities of Jenkins’ work as a leader on the set would he strive to bring to his own big-budget movie? This is what Wright said:

“It is his passion and his enthusiasm. She is so fast and so brilliant. And she really pushed to have her movie. You know, because that’s a high-production stew, you know? That’s a big boat, a lot of people, a lot of opinions and a lot of directions; “This is the movie we should do, this is the movie we should release,” all of those and she really persevered and was able to make her movie. ”

How exactly do you increase your chances of having your movie made your way when working in the studio system? Wright pointed out a very important aspect of Jenkins’s approach that is likely to make a big difference:

“This is Energizer Bunny, you know? She’s going to get what she wants and she doesn’t have to be mean about it. She is very ambitious and I really respect that force. ”

If only everyone tried hard to get what they wanted without being mean about it!
