The Star Wars Andor show reportedly has Obi-Wan Kenobi in a recurring role

An exclusive report says that Ewan McGregor will have a recurring role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the upcoming Star Wars series Andor starring Diego Luna.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will reportedly have a recurring role in the upcoming Andor Serie. Star Wars is further expanding its catalog with a series of television series coming to Disney + after The mandalorianthe success. Aside from the spin-offs generated by the Pedro Pascal-directed show that takes place after the events of the original trilogy, there are also other offerings for the small screen that are set before the Battle of Yavin.

Not much is known about the plot details for Andor, but the general idea is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story who saw the main character’s death along with the rest of his new allies who sacrificed their lives to steal the Death Star plans. Andor particularly left a mark as someone who has been in the fight against the Galactic Empire since he was very young. The Gareth Edwards-directed film established that while the Rebellion was generally touted as the good guys, people were willing to do just about anything for its bigger picture, including Cassian.

That idea will be covered later in Andor with the series described as a thriller, “Exploring stories full of espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy ruled by a ruthless Empire.” If that’s not attractive enough, The Illuminerdi now reporting that Ewan McGregor will appear in the project as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it’s not just for a cameo. According to the outlet, the Jedi Master will have a recurring role in the series. Unfortunately, no additional details were provided.

Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi

Andor is currently in production with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy offering an update in December 2020 for Disney Investor Day. Then, Andor still images have made their way online. Meanwhile, McGregor is currently preparing for his own Disney + series as Obi-Wan Kenobi directed by The mandalorian student, Deborah Chow. After several delays, the project is scheduled to begin filming this spring in Los Angeles. Neither project has a release date yet, but assuming this report is true, it’s possible that McGregor’s first appearance as Obi-Wan was in Andor.

In narrative terms, this could mean that Obi-Wan was in contact with the Rebellion during his exile on Tatooine. Depending on when Andor lands exactly on the Star Wars timeline, his involvement could mean an encounter with Cassian at some points in the show. If this goes well, it effectively reframes what is known about Obi-Wan’s life between the prequel trilogy and his appearance in A new hope.
