In TMNT: The Last Ronin, Michelangelo might be the last surviving turtle, but he carries on his brother’s legacy in the best way.

With Miguel Angel being the last surviving member of the Ninja Turtles in the Ultimate Ronin Dark Future, he has found a moving way to honor the legacy of his fallen brothers. In the new comic, the last Turtle not only becomes a martial arts master, but also makes sure to carry the weapons of his fallen brothers.
Despite having published only two issues so far, IDW Publishing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is shaping up to be a classic story for iconic comic book characters. The series follows Michelangelo navigating his own grief in a dark future where his entire family (except April O’Neil) have been murdered by the Shredder’s descendants. In a quest for revenge, Mikey has teamed up with April and her daughter Casey Marie Jones to fulfill his destiny and defeat Oroku Hiroto, the current leader of the Foot Clan.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, Tom Waltz, Esau, and Isaac Escorza, Michelangelo is seen fighting the Foot Clan soldiers while using multiple weapons, such as Leonardo’s Katanas, Donatello’s Bo, Michelangelo’s Nunchaku, and Raphael’s Sai are visible in your tool belt. In the first issue of the series, after injuring himself in a fall, Michelangelo attempts to commit suicide with a broken Katana. Before doing so, he places each of his brother’s weapons along with their masks.
In the second issue, Michelangelo reveals to Casey Marie Jones that after the failed suicide attempt, the last Turtle turned to Splinter’s lessons (in his book) to become a master of all forms of martial arts and adapt to all. the forms of combat, including the use of his brother’s weapons. By mastering his training, he found a way to restore his family’s honor and become the Last Ronin. If his brothers can’t be around, he can honor their legacy by using their weapons.
It’s quite a different path for a character originally referred to as a “party guy” in the multiple TMNT cartoons. He has completely transformed from the less serious and fun-loving Turtle of the group to focusing on martial arts and mastering his brother’s weapons. When it comes to honoring his brothers, there’s no better way for him to uphold his legacies by using his iconic weapons while trying to get revenge for their deaths. Miguel Angel becoming the Ultimate Ronin it’s the best way you can respect your siblings’ memories and make sure their tragic deaths mean something.
