A sequel made decades after the first movie is often cause for concern, and Coming 2 America It’s no different, especially considering the roller coaster Eddie Murphy’s career has had in recent years. Well, in a strange crossover, these concerns would have come true for many, with Murphy revealing that the long-awaited Coming to america the sequel almost featured a cameo by The nutty professor family, The Klumps.
“There was a scene in this Coming 2 America that we just did. There was a scene where the Klumps, do you remember the circumcision scene? Originally, the Klumps appeared in that scene. In the long run, it was too difficult to the left , and it would have been too expensive to do. So yeah, they were in on this. “
Ultimately, after a period of reflection and no doubt an angry email from the accounts department, the decision to have Murphy dress up as The Klumps for a cameo in Coming 2 America was scrapped. The actor first played the five members of the Klump family in 1996. The nutty professor, Whats Next Eddie murphy like the smart and good-natured university professor Sherman Klump, who tries to lose weight using experimental medicine of his own design. While the potion works, it also transforms him into an evil alter ego, Buddy Love, also played by Murphy.
The Klumps were promoted to title roles in the 2000 sequel. Speaking of aftermath, Coming 2 America Coming some thirty years after the original, it brings back Eddie Murphy as Akeem Joffer, former prince, now King of Zamunda, alongside Arsenio Hall as Semmi’s best friend. Picking up on the events of the first film, the long-awaited sequel finds former prince and newly crowned king, Akeem Joffer, discovering he has a son he never knew in America. Honoring their royal father’s dying wish to groom this son as crown prince, Akeem and Semmi set out for America once more.
Murphy has previously discussed the significance of the 1988 original, and the actor is wary of tarnishing the legacy. “The only thing I didn’t want to do was make a bad sequel to a movie that a lot of people have invested a lot in. A lot of people grew up watching Coming to America,” he said. “It’s special to them. So you don’t want to smear that.” Could a cameo from The Klumps have done exactly that? Maybe. Or is it perhaps something Eddie Murphy fans would have loved to see added to the upcoming sequel? Who knows.
