Dragon Ball Super revealed that Android 17 may quietly be the strongest of the Z Fighters, surpassing even Goku himself.

One of the most deceptively powerful characters of all Dragon Ball It is not among the usual options, as the series stars Goku and Vegeta. It’s not Gohan with his extraordinary amount of untapped potential or Piccolo with his esoteric Namek abilities. Instead, it’s Android 17, with untold levels of power and capabilities that make it one of the most formidable warriors in all of Dragon Ball Multiverse, as confirmed at the end of Dragon ball super and hinted, with much more sinister implications, in the non-canonical series Dragon Ball GT.

Android 17, along with his twin sister Android 18, was created by Doctor Geroas as the ultimate killing machine to eliminate Goku and avenge the Red Ribbon Army. Dragon Ball-it was destruction. 17 proved to be superior to the Z Fighters since his debut in Dragon Ball Z. His cyborg body meant that 17 never got tired, giving him a visible advantage over Piccolo, even after the Namekian champion merged with Kami to become the strongest Namekian in Universe 7. And while 17 was dominated by Cell during their first encounter, would resurface stronger than ever in the midst of Super, becoming the unlikely savior of Universe 7 during the Tournament of Power.

As Goku was searching for recruits to represent Universe 7 in the tournament to decide the fate of the multiverse, he approached 17 after not having seen the android since the Cell Games years before. After a friendly sparring match to see if 17 should have a spot on the team, Goku was surprised that 17 could keep up with him after all this time, even after Goku turned Super Saiyan Blue. 17 mentioned that, while working in a remote wildlife preserve, he had quietly continued to train since his resurrection through Dragon Balls after the Cell Games. The significant increase of 17 in combat strength proves vital to Universe 7’s victory in the Tournament of Power, with 17 surprising everyone as the last fighter standing after a protracted battle against the Universe 11 champion, Jiren.

Dragon Ball GT provides a considerably darker character arc for 17, with the android resurfacing a year after Baby’s defeat. While in Hell, Gero and Doctor Myuu team up to build a 17-year-old doppelgänger, aptly named Hell Fighter 17, to contact his counterpart on Earth and open a portal that allows those from Hell to escape. Hell Fighter 17’s presence corrupts the original android, causing it to attack the Z Fighters, before merging to form the mighty Super Android 17. Able to withstand the most powerful blows from Super Saiyan 4 Goku, the original 17 took the control of his own fused body for a long time. enough to become vulnerable for Goku to attack and finally save the day.

Unable to fatigue and possess unlimited reserves of energy, Android 17 has risen through the ranks at the end of Dragon ball super to become one of the strongest fighters of all. Not even Goku can sustain the Ultra Instinct transformation for an extended period of time and while he is stronger than 17 in this form, 17 could theoretically expect him by evading the Saiyan fighter. And at 17 exponentially stronger after training for a decade, it is unknown how much more powerful the android could become if he spent that same time training in the Hyperbolic Chamber of Time – he could emerge as the strongest Z Fighter in the entire multiverse.
