In Star Wars, Emperor Palpatine originally had big plans for Darth Vader. However, there is a good reason I wanted to write it off in favor of Luke Skywalker.
At Star Wars universe, Emperor Palpatine’s most famous apprentice was Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader. Due to Anakin’s prophesied role as the Chosen One, Palpatine spent years honing Skywalker’s abilities, strengths, and loyalties until his final transformation into Darth Vader. Yet despite that effort, Palpatine ultimately sought to replace Darth Vader with his son, Luke Skywalker, and there’s good reason for that.
While Anakin was initially destined to become the Chosen One, the former Jedi Knight’s battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith resulted in the loss of much of his power. During their fight, Obi-Wan slashed Anakin’s legs under him during a jump, which later resulted in the newly created Sith engulfing himself in fire. As a result of his injuries, Vader’s iconic black suit became a vital necessity. Most of Anakin’s being was gone, replaced by machinery to keep him alive. The Force, however, is strong with living things, not with inanimate objects.

According to series creator George Lucas, the loss of power resulting from Anakin’s injuries is what prompted Palpatine to decide to replace his apprentice with Luke. “Anakin, as Skywalker, as a human, was going to be extremely powerful.”Lucas explained in 2005. But he ended up losing his arms and a leg and became part of a robot. Therefore, much of his ability to use the Force, many of his powers, are restricted at this point, because, as a life form, that does not exist”. much of it left. Then, with Luke, Palpatine saw a second chance. Despite being defeated by Vader in battle, Luke was still young and, one hand minus, mostly organic. This meant that he was incredibly strong in the Force and had all the qualities and raw power that Palpatine still desired. When Luke faced Vader and Palpatine on Death Star II in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, the Emperor was ready to trade his current apprentice for a newer model.

Palpatine was, first and foremost, a strategic Sith, and there is a long history of him discarding old apprentices and trading when his services might be outmatched. He passed from Maul without hesitation and sacrificed Count Dooku to bring Anakin to the Dark Side in Revenge of the Sith. Following his usual pattern, when Palpatine found a suitable replacement for Darth Vader in Luke, the Emperor betrayed his apprentice. However, as Palpatine found out when Darth Vader threw him into the Death Star II reactor core after Luke declined his offer, treating others as expendables is a good way to get rid of them.
