There has never been a comic book film director with a more divisive following than Zack snyder. He has a legion of fans who finally managed to make the “Snyder Cut” of League of Justice a reality. But the general public has not responded with such passion Iron Man or Batman v. Superman. In a recent interview, Snyder was asked how he felt about other DCEU movies like Shazam, Aquaman, Y Wonder Woman finding greater acceptance among the general public, and the filmmaker stated that he has no hard feelings about the fact.
“I couldn’t be happier. It doesn’t hurt at all. Those movies are great, and they’re so well done, and they’re excellent. But BvS, love it or not, is probably the most mentioned movie in hashtags and references. It’s the closest thing to it. to a cult movie that could exist at this level of pop culture. Am I a provocateur? A little bit. My job is to make a pop culture candy that you eat and forget about The next day? No. [expletive] in a movie that makes it nice and beautiful for everyone. Let’s face it, there is no cult of Aquaman. Jason is a force of nature and of course I want there to be 100 Aquaman movies because he’s an amazing guy. But it is not controversial. And by the way, because I love it, I made the difficult movies. “
While Snyder is glad he made his films in a way that sparked such fierce debate, the Warner Bros. executives’ intention had always been to create a giant DC cinematic universe in the vein of the MCU. To that end, the DCEU has moved away from Snyder’s vision for the franchise, with the filmmaker wishing the studio all the luck as they move in a new direction.
“[The studio is] 100 percent walking away. They regard the theatrical cut of Justice League as canon. That is your decision. I wish you all the best, and I hope it is all a huge blockbuster over blockbuster over blockbuster. The stars in those movies are my friends, and I want them to be prosperous, and I want people to love it. “
It will be interesting to see if the release of the Snyder Cut could still win over the general public and once again bring the DCEU back under Snyder’s original vision for the cinematic universe that began with Iron Man.
