Director Zack Snyder’s epic vision of the League of Justice delivers the hopes, dreams and expectations of the dedicated fans who sued him. The Snyder Cut eliminates the crushing disappointment of the original abyss. Each character is explored with a depth and nuance that rethinks the entire majestic story. This is particularly true of the Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Lois Lane (Amy Adams), and the much-improved villain, Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds). The movie blazes with stunning action scenes and a much darker, edgier tone. The massive two hundred and forty-three minute runtime has some padding, but is never boring and keeps your attention engrossed at all times.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League it is told in six chapters followed by an epilogue. It begins on a tragic note with the brave death of Superman (Henry Cavill) at the hands of Doomsday. As the world reels from his loss, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) knows there is a greater threat looming. He has had an apocalyptic vision of the end of the world. Batman must rally the planet’s metahumans to battle an enemy unlike any he has ever encountered.

Meanwhile in Themyscira, an ancient artifact from a distant war comes to life. The Mother Box protected by the Amazons has summoned its true master. Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) and her warriors are the first to confront Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons. She sends a desperate message to Diana (Gal Gadot). Who in turn informs Bruce Wayne of the three Mother Boxes and their true purpose. Together they search for Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Barry Allen and Victor Stone, a former soccer player transformed after a horrible accident. They soon realize that their immense abilities are not yet enough to take on Steppenwolf. The Mother Boxes had been inactive for a reason. Earth’s greatest protector, though fallen, is the only hope of victory.

The Snyder Cut bears little resemblance to 2017 League of Justice. Everything that was obviously flawed is corrected and improved. The biggest difference is Steppenwolf. He has a devilish makeover with gleaming metallic armor that moves in waves to repel attacks. Kill without mercy with a savage and bloody intent. What was once a CGI disaster becomes a real disaster. His attacks on Themyscira and Atlantis are intense and graphic. Steppenwolf also sets the stage for the introduction of DeSaad (Peter Guiness) and the biggest baddie, Darkseid (Ray Porter).

The Snyder Cut plot is intricate, multi-layered, and establishes serious dramatic tension with the supporting characters. Part Three: The Beloved Mother, The Beloved Son, delves into the backstories of Flash and Cyborg. The fourth part, Change Machine, focuses on the despair and loneliness of Lois Lane and Martha Kent (Diane Lane). The second act of the film has a weight that elevates the plot. The lack of credible sentiment was a serious flaw in the original release. That mistake is addressed here and adds a significant emotional cost.

There are surprises and setups that will thrill DC fans. Zack Snyder lays the groundwork for the League of Justice universe that started in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We saw hints of new characters and the Joker (Jared Leto) in the released images, but there were no leaks that revealed the actual plot. Raise your expectations because it is a blast. I sincerely hope that Warner Media continues this story in The flash and beyond. If they do, the DC Universe can finally compete with the MCU.

What didn’t I like? Zack Snyder sticks to his cinematic style ad nauseam. Its use of slow motion easily adds thirty minutes to the four-hour runtime. He goes overboard in this regard. Many action scenes are spectacular in stylized slow motion. But there is a lot of filler that you don’t need. I also had problems with his music and score options at key moments. Several dramatic scenes are accompanied by voices lamenting. It’s a distraction at first and then it becomes a real nuisance. A scene with Aquaman is an excellent example and it blew me away.

The wave of fan support for Zack Snyder marks a new chapter in the studio’s commitment. A fiery base gained momentum and got the movie they fought for. I’m not sure if future circumstances will produce the same quality result, but it definitely worked in this situation. Zack Snyder’s Justice League it is a masterpiece to admire and enjoy. It is also a lasting tribute to his beloved daughter, who sadly took her own life. The film is a Warner Bros., DC Films, The Stone Quarry, and Atlas Entertainment production. It will be released on March 18 worldwide on HBO Max.
