The Power Rangers have always been the best line of defense standing between them and the alien threats that would see him crumble. While heroes have historically been able to protect Earth from anything that comes their way, Lord Zedd’s latest attack has subjected them to their most crushing defeat yet. Now the Power Rangers are completely cut off from Angel Grove and they can’t help even if they knew how. Fortunately, they still have allies within the city who are working to save the day, even if one of them is also working to remake the Power Rangers themselves.

Grace Sterling, the first Red Ranger and founder of Promethea, has been working tirelessly to try and save the world where the Power Rangers cannot. After recruiting Billy Cranston to help rebuild the Green Ranger and Dragonzord in secret, he approached the Ranger’s old friend, Matthew Cook, to complete the list. Even though Matthew was hesitant to continue beyond his first mission, he was finally convinced by the sincerity and trust behind Grace’s offer. It should come as no surprise that Grace has her eyes open to the untapped potential of the Power Rangers. Even if his own time as a Ranger lasted for just one mission, that was more than enough to show him how much good the Power Rangers could do if it weren’t for his reactionary nature.

Grace’s feelings for Zordon are no secret, and the tension that has built up between them has only been overshadowed by the fact that Angel Grove is completely under Lord Zedd’s control. However, his anger is understandable, as his only mission as a Power Ranger saw three of his teammates killed before his very eyes by a threat they were in no way prepared for. To top it all, upon her return she was stripped of her powers and sent on her way by a cold and unfeeling Zordon who no longer needed her services. The trauma of those events has not only pushed Grace to create the new Green Ranger outside of Zordon’s purview, it has also given her a fresh insight into what the Power Rangers could be were it not for their archaic rules and traditions.

Grace doesn’t just want Matthew to be her own personal Green Ranger, she wants him to usher in a new era of Power Rangers. Now that it’s possible to create Rangers without the influence of beings like Zordon or the Blue Emissary, there’s not much stopping Grace from forming her own team entirely. The Mighty Morphin team has been a formidable force for good, but they aren’t exactly proactive when it comes to stopping would-be alien conquerors and invaders. So far, the only team that has taken the fight into their own hands has been the Omega Rangers, and doing so cost them every last ally they had. Grace’s vision of Power Rangers actively working to make the world a better place beyond being super-powered bodyguards might be the antithesis of what Zordon envisioned, but with the way things are going right now, it might as well. be the best idea anyone has had in a long time.
