For a man who received his first Ph.D. At the age of 16 and winning the Nobel Prize, one would have expected Sheldon Cooper to be impeccable in his decision-making. Unfortunately, that was not always the case. Although he was an extremely likable character, the protagonist seemed to have more academic knowledge than common sense.
Sheldon’s sense of superiority caused him to treat his friends and love interests badly on several occasions. Fortunately for him, they were all understanding enough to take him for who he was. While Leonard, Raj, Howard, Penny, Amy, and Bernadette all ignored their actions, there are things fans still can’t put aside.
10 Let Raj be attacked by rats
Sheldon only cares about Sheldon and it showed on multiple occasions. Once, while conducting research on dark matter, he and Raj went underground to see if they could survive in harsh environments.
Their investigation did not go well as they were faced with a group of hostile sewage rats. Without thinking twice, Sheldon took off, leaving Raj behind. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he sealed Raj’s place, leaving him in total danger. Fortunately, Raj also managed to escape. When he faced Sheldon later, the physicist had no regrets.
9 Hang Penny’s clothes on the phone wires
Sheldon not only valued his personal things, but he was also very hygienic. When Penny touched her food without permission, she declared it her number one enemy. In order not to miss out on a chance for revenge, he started invading her personal space on a regular basis just to anger her.
It was a little too far when he decided to take Penny’s clothes out of the laundry room and throw them on the phone wires. With this action, Penny could have lost all of her clothes. Fortunately, Leonard gave Penny Sheldon Kryptonite, her mother’s phone number. Penny reported him and after being reprimanded, Sheldon had to apologize.
8 The 45-day expedition
Fed up with his shaky love life and frustrating career, Sheldon woke up one day and decided to go on a 45-day expedition across the United States. He thought that there was no mission in this world that he could not fulfill.
To no one’s surprise, the journey did not end well for him. Sheldon’s phone, money, and pants were stolen. Then he called Leonard to take him to Arizona. At the police station, he began instructing the commanding officer on how to do his job as Sherlock Holmes.
7 Downplaying Penny’s Pregnancy
Sheldon finally achieved his lifelong dream of winning the Nobel Prize in the series finale when he was called in and informed that he was the winner. He and the gang boarded a plane to Stockholm, Sweden, to collect the prestigious award.
On the plane, Sheldon discovered that Penny was pregnant. Instead of being happy for her, he claimed that anyone could have a baby, but no one could win a Nobel Prize. This resulted in a reprimand from both Leonard and Amy. Since Sheldon’s friends were happy for him, he should at least have been happy for Penny as well.
6 Fighting Howard over the parking lot
One day, while the gang was having lunch at the CalTech cafeteria, Howard showed up and announced that he had bought a new car. He invited them to check it out, telling them it was stationed in Space 294.
Sheldon was immediately hostile, insisting that Space 294 was his parking spot. He started arguing with Howard about it even though he didn’t have a car and didn’t know how to drive. Since he had an IQ of 187, Sheldon should have used common sense here. Instead, he did something even sillier by trying to push Howard’s car away from the scene.
5 Taking all the credit for a scientific investigation
Since Sheldon never realized when he was rude or selfish, he ended up treating Leonard badly on a couple of occasions. In Season 8, he and Leonard researched and co-wrote a paper that was widely acclaimed among their fellow scientists.
Later, Leonard was shocked and saddened to discover that his name was not listed among the newspaper writers in the magazine that reported on the investigation. This was all because Sheldon had deliberately refused to include Leonard’s eulogy. Sheldon ended up getting all the accolades.
4 Sabotaging Howard’s plans to get a Ph.D.
Being the only gang member without a Ph.D. was always difficult for Howard. Sheldon used to joke that engineers like him were “the Oompa-Loompas of science.” He also felt that they were “noble semi-skilled workers.”
Howard ultimately decided to prove that he was smart enough to earn a Ph.D. by enrolling in Sheldon’s college classes. However, Sheldon didn’t take this too kindly, so he deliberately asked Howard tough questions to make him seem less intelligent. As a result, Howard never ended up earning that prized doctorate.
3 Drink a lot before giving a speech
In season three, Sheldon’s god work earned him the Chancellor of Science Award at CalTech. However, he was nervous as he had to give an acceptance speech while receiving the award.
This was strange considering that Sheldon had been portrayed as quite trusting up to that point. His friends tried different techniques to help him prepare for the speech. All of those might have worked, but then Sheldon decided to gulp down several glasses of wine as well to gather courage. Unsurprisingly, he spoiled his speech, even going so far as to remove his pants. A smart person like him should have known what alcohol would do to him.
two Valentine’s fight
One Valentine’s Day, Leonard headed to Switzerland to spend time at the ERN Laboratory and observe the Large Hadron Collider. Since he had never spent Valentine’s Day with a girl, he wanted to take Penny with him. And even though Penny didn’t care about all the science, she wanted to go so she could ski.
Sheldon complicated things because he wanted Leonard to take him away. Therefore, he began to fight with Penny over who should go, ignoring Leonard’s desire to spend Valentine’s with the love of his life. In the end, both Penny and Sheldon missed the trip because they were sick with the flu.
one He ‘stole’ Leonard’s mom
Moms were a big part of Leonard and Sheldon’s life. While Sheldon’s mother was preoccupied with her son’s affairs, Leonard’s mother was mostly cold and disinterested.
This caused Leonard to make several attempts to conquer her. He barely succeeded, and Sheldon was aware of it. Rather than let Leonard work on his relationship with his mother, Sheldon took over and pleased Leonard’s mother when he arrived at the apartment, making her like him. Although he rarely praised Leonard’s work, he praised Sheldon, hurting Leonard in the process.
